Never driven a automatic diesel before today. Bit disappointed. Seems very lumpy and jerky . Obviously not like the 2.0 petrol that I swapped it for . Faulty or not . Only 52000 miles and full ford service history? Any ideas' or just normal. Ta

    To some degree yes they are jerky compared to traditional auto's. VW units are just the same.

    Most of Ford's auto boxes are a bit rough (petrol & diesel), others on here may have more 1st hand experience with recent Ford auto boxes.

    As far as I know the 2007 Focus MK2 1.6 TDCI has the CVT type automatic gearbox.

    The 1.6 TDCI in combination with the CVT gearbox is known to be a bad combination. The torque of the 1.6 TDCI turned out to be too high for the CVT automatic gearbox which causes lumpy shifting behavior and often even causes the gearbox to brake down. This problem even occurred on young low mileage cars.

    There are very few internal spare parts of this gearbox available. Most times if the gearbox brakes down you have to change the complete gearbox or get it overhauled by a gearbox specialist. Both are pretty expensive. I have seen some of these vehicles being scrapped because of a broken gearbox.
