Engine Oil For 1.0 Ecoboost 2014

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone.

12 months of happy motoring with only 2700 on the clock. Time for the oil change; is 5W20 the only alternative or is it just Ford's insistence because of fuel compliance?

Is there anything else I should know before doing the oil change?

See you soon.

Bloomin heck. 2700 miles.

Are you definitely not keeping the warranty?

Sorry I can't help with question. You just took me aback with your low mileage.

What do you mean by 'not keeping the warranty' Gillan?

Sorry I maybe misread. I took it you were servicing it yourself. This would mean no service stamp and end of the 3 year warranty I believe.

5w20 is the correct oil for that engine.

The service is due every 12 months or 12500 miles, which ever happens first,

To keep the warranty the service has to be done by a garage (ford or independant) using ford parts, and probably to ford schedule (look on ford etis for what's checked). An oil and filter change is not a service.

I wonder what would happen if you got it serviced somewhere and book is stamped. Later you get a warranty fault and take it to ford. They look at car and determine last service wasn't done right even though book stamped.

Thanks Mark, I normally do these easy jobs myself so it is a decision on whether to pay a premium for a Ford service or risk not having two more years of warranty. At my low yearly miles I may well just take the risk.

What is etis Mark?

If you google ford ETIS , you'll find a site that tells you all about you car.

You dont have to go to a ford dealership i believe to keep your warranty intact. You can go to any garage that promises to mark your book and for it not to void warranty. ex. quik fit offer service to manufacturer specification. Considering the joy I've had with my last service at a dealership I'm almost willing to give a local garage who promises the same thing for a cheaper rate. My warranty is out now though.

They also grease door checks and probably linkages under car. Especially with your car not being used much it's more likely needing greased. Yes it's expensive and a dilemma we all go through.

Dont forget you get 12 month Breakdown cover with Ford service which helps a bit.

Warranty for some things are held up of you service with someone else, however we have had focus upon focus with serious engine bother eg warped head or scored cylinders, main cause for this is the defect coolant return pipe going brittle and breaking however with the cars not been serviced with ford, the warranty was void and customer was hit with a bill of over 4 grand

I appreciate what you are saying Darren and I understand the facts but that is nothing but a scam that in the end will do Ford little good in terms of customer value.

The return pipe going brittle is a design fault and should result in a recall to rectify the problem and has nothing to do with who did the service.

This is where manufacturers get a bad reputation imho.

Finally having "Focus upon Focus with serious engine problems......" just fills me with the fear that I have spent my hard earned cash on a pile of crap.

It will go brittle with age/use but on a sevice ford will check it, they will also check for know faults on their system. This won't get done by most independents, you won't have checked it yourself as you wouldn't have known about it.

If you don't want to pay for a dealer service that's upto you but if you ever need something doing under warranty don't expect ford to be helpful, they sometimes help out if something goes wrong just after the warranty period has ended if history can be proved with dealer invoices.

How long do you plan to keep, the car? No service history or warrnty will effect the value.

In the end Ford and the dealers are there to make money, it's upto you if you want to pay them or someone else.

The pipe is now recalled however this has only been in the last week, all focus's built within a certain time frame are being brought back and checked to make sure they have or get replaced with the new rubber regas pipe

ive seen ecoboost 1.0 focus with 70k and still going strong, so as long as no coolant loss then they seem to keep going ok

Thanks for all your responses guys.

I bit the bullet and followed your good advice. It's in for a service on Monday the reason being that there may be technical things that they are advised to check and If I do the service myself I have no way of knowing what they are.

See all you guys soon.
