Focus 1.8Tdci "glow Plug Light"

Featured Replies

Hello, new here and in need of some help.

I have a 1.8tdci and got few problems with it.

Sometimes around 3,4 gear the Engine Cuts off the Power and the glow plug light comes on.

i turn off and on the Engine and the fault is gone.

but a few Days ago i was out driving got on the freeway and the light Went on, i stopped and turn the Engine off and on but now when i turn the ignition on the light comes on right away.

i drove home and the day after that the Engine wont start...or it starts but it dies right after.

i even got lots of White smoke when i start it and give it some gas.

some says EGR, and some says crankshaft sensor what should i look for ?

Sorry for my bad English im from Swe, Thanks for ur help :)

Clogged EGR or failing injectors are a possibility.

First of all I would fit an EGR blanking plate and see if you have any improvement.

If that doesn't help then get the injectors checked/recoded.

Have you had a diagnostic check carried out to see if any error codes are stored?

Ok thanks, what is blanking plate ?

Can i unplugg the egr and try to start it?

i have error codes dont remember what it was...:/

im gonna leave it to the garage today so they will check it but i want to know first if i can do it by myself.

A blanking plate will isolate the EGR from the inlet pipe effectively deactivating it.

This will improve engine reliability and produce a better power range at all rpm.

It is a highly recommended procedure and you will notice improved performance.

If you do this then endure you get a solid plate (no hole in the middle) and ensure it is a good quality steel one as the alloy ones can melt through.

Keep us updated as to progress and results of the garage check.

I would start with changing the fuel filter if it hasn't already been done.

like above, first change the fuel filter and then blank off the EGR as that thing is useless on the 1.8 TDCI
