Hi all got a Focus 1.6 zetec 125bhp powershift, only done 500 miles but some times sticks in park, If you press brake pedal a few times and press gear selecter a few times it comes out stays stuck for around 6 seconds or so.Bob :unsure:

    sounds like a dodgy brake switch to me,

    so when you put foot brake on, you cant physically move the gear selector out of park?

    Is there a solenoid which locks the stick in Park till you operate the brake?

    In theory if the system uses the brake light switch as part of solenoid control then check if your brake lights are coming on and off as intended. May not help if it uses a second independent switch though.

    May also be if the solenoid is jamming due to tension on it from the gear shifter - try just waggling the stick with the pedal continually pressed to see if that's the case.

    Thanks all for your help,and yes when I press the foot brake the gear selector will not move but does come out after pressing foot brake on/off. Will try waggling gear shift about as suggested its under warranty but nice to get advice from you guys. :)
