2008 1.6 Tdci Noise When Accelarating

Featured Replies

Hi hoping someone can help here, I have a 2008 1.6 Tdci focus, last week my local ford dealer changed the dpf as it was chucking out shed loads of smoke when coming off the motorway, and had started randomly cutting out and refusing to start back up straight away. Since then it hasn't cut out or been smoky, but it has developed a strange noise, best I can describe it is a kind of scraping \ grating sound, it sounds almost like and electric motor that's coming on briefly, it sounds to me as though it coming from the passenger side engine bay, it only does it when moving, it starts at about 12000 revs and gets louder until about 15000 revs then gets quieter I can't hear it at all at 20000 revs. If I rev it when stationary I can't hear it at all. After reading loads of horror stories about this engine I'm now really worried that the turbo is on its way out, especially as I'm supposed to driving up to the lakes on my honey moon tomorrow. If it were the turbo, would it still make the noise when stationary? I'm going to ring the dealer 1st thing tomorrow to see I they can take a quick look at it, but thought id post on here to see if it sounded familiar to anyone?

Get them to got a dignostics on it to see if anything comes back or even look around different garages and but make sure that they are experts in diesels

Thanks for your reply gers89, I took it back to the garage yesterday morning before setting off on my holidays, turned out to be a bracket on the exhaust they'd forgotten to tighten up when they changed the dpf, so all sorted. Though I did notice when checking the turbo I have a small hole in the air cleaner tube, so I'll replace that when I get home next week.
