Parking Light Switch

Featured Replies

The wife parked the Car last night at her work. She is a Nurse so it was a 12 hour shift.

Came out this morning could not get the doors open with key fob. opened them manually, tried to start the car nothing happening.Phoned me i asked if she had left any lights on. yes she had left the switch in Parking light mode. Would this drain the battery overnight ?

Had a friend go round this morning try and jump start it didn't want to know. It looks like a fairly new battery in their so I'm thinking alternator . She doesn't do a lot of mileage. Unfortunately I'm out of the country so unable to have a proper look at the car. She has been having some issues with remote fob. Having to go right up to the Car to unlock. She had the battery in the fob checked which seemed to be OK.

She was told at the time it may be the remote sensor in the Car which was wearing out.

Thanks

Ian

Update:

Swapped batteries that got it started . So cross fingers it will be ok. Told her to take it for a good run when she can .

Thanks

Ian

Remote sesnor has no moving parst so wont ever wear out, it either works or doesnt. However you can reduce its range if you put metal objects near it

Sounds more like the battery in the plipper needs changing

Also change your park lights to LED's and then they wont drain the battery in days

However your current problem seems like it has shorted the battery internally and it now wont take a charge. It would start with a duff alternator (just wont charge), but a shorted battery could prevent a start. You need to put the jump leads on it and run the donor car for a while, then remove the leads wait 5 and measure the voltage on the battery o see if its taking a charge or not

Then charge the car again for 15 and then start the car WHILE the donor battery is connected and donor car running, that should start it even if battery is shorted (mind you the engine will die when donor is removed it its battery is really dead

Remember on the Focus, red lead to battery + terminal and then black lead to the boddy charge point alonmgside the battery (NOT to the battery -ve)

Thanks fro the Info

Good to know the remote sensor thing either works or doesn't.

Had a friend swap his battery on to the Focus that started the car they let it run for about 10 mins then swapped the batteries back

car is running ok at the moment. I'm not bak in the UK till July. Wife bought the car while I was out of the country.

Soon as i get back intend to change Timing Belt & Water Pump..at the same time will go over the car for anything that might be a problem in the future

Many Thanks

Ian

Sounds like the old battery is suspect then. I'd budget for a new one and place the old one as a spare

Well its the start of June in Scotland but more like the middle of winter so a new battery will be on the list of things to sort.

July can't come soon enough :)
