I should also add that it feels like instant brake fade when applying and the car struggles to stop "as it should"

Sounds like a vacuum leak. It could be a punctured servo diaphagm or split pipe from the manifold to servo.

Ive just had a peep under the hood and the reservoir is dry

Hope its not the servo.

you need to get that looked at asap no fluid no brakes

Yup, driving 15 miles home was ...... Interesting! Hahaha booked in with mechanic tomorrow.

Ive driven worse though so its all good, if i can drive a mk2 fiesta with 3 wheels (the 4th was tucked under the FNS wishbone after a friend introduced it to a kerb at 50 sideways) then i can handle a car with no hydraulics hahaha, ill keep you posted.

Hows the clutch? Since the slave cylinder is fed from the brake fluid had that fail before you'll usually see fluid leaking from the gearbox on the join where it splits

  • Author

The clutch seems fine tbh.

Although they share the reservoir they are fed from separate compartments so loss of fluid in the brakes won't affect the clutch and vice versa.

Not on the mk2 the slave cylinder went and my brake light came on due to low fluid slave cylinder was replaced and all was good mk2.5 may be different set up

surely the warning light would come on low brake fluid

Could be a slow leak if pedal fade is occurring a brake hose or pipe there is a test with the car off pump the brake till its hard keep you're foot on the pedal and start the car if the cylinders keeping pressure the pedal will lower and stop if the pedal keeps pumping and wont go hard theres a vacume leak
