Buying Help 100 Vs 125Ps

Featured Replies

Hi,

Test drove a 100PS Ecoboost Titanium at the weekend, and really enjoyed the ride and handling.

On paper I'd like the 125PS mainly because it exists! Not managed to try the 125 yet, local dealers don't have that many cars (South West).

I have had two separate dealers suggest they can't tell the difference....

Any personal experience of the two would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have the 100ps, mainly down to insurance... From what Ive heard the 125 is just more BHP but less torque so depends how you drive

125 has more BHP and more torque. Its only noticable when you floor it though. Otherwise they drive about the same.

125 = 200 nm torque on overboost (170 nm normal driving)

100 = 170 nm torque

I have a 125 Titanium and my parents have 100 Titanium so I have experience of both.

I have had two separate dealers suggest they can't tell the difference....

They would say that when they have a 100PS car that they're trying to sell to you ;)

I think dealers have a habit of putting down any features of a car they don't have ready to sell to you, because they want to sell a car to you on the day. For example before I got my ST I asked a salesman about the rear centre head restraint, and he said it could obstruct your view so not worth having. That's nonsense of course, and I think the only reason he said it was that they didn't have a Fiesta with that feature.

100 PS is about 'adequate' for the Mk2 Focus, which is noticeably larger than a Fiesta. So I'd suspect 100PS is more than adequate for the smaller Fiesta. But if you are someone that enjoys putting the boot down regularly, you'll probably prefer the extra top-end grunt that the 125 PS gives.

Just my 2c.

I had a 100ps Zetec and it was good.

If you ever want to re-map then the 125ps version has the Mountune 135p which keeps the Ford Warranty. The 100bhp can be mapped but only by third party maps that don't keep the Ford Warranty intact.

I guess100ps will be adequate as said.
If you dont want to be left thinking how much better the 125ps is, then test them back to back if possible.

I down graded from a 2LTR so wanted to minimise the difference in power.
I have no regrets choosing the 125ps.

the 100ps version is good. but i'm only saying this because i never got to drive the 125. for me, it was the zetec vs zetec s, and to be honest, the ambient lighting won me over

You're joking, right?

25bhp vs ambient lighting?

Gordon Bennet, I just requested a brainscan.

Can't believe I'm about to say this but, I agreed with Ray.

Ambient light over more power and better looks. I'm sure you can add the light over the glovebox to a ZS.

Ffs a agree too surprised at you mark

Titanium has ambient lighting and 125 engine :-)

And Chris are you getting brand new or used?

Still working it out. Seen some decent deals on new ones, but normally I'd go for something a year old.

I think I just need to find the right used one.

Colour wise I'm after Race Red, Deep Impact Blue or Candy Blue.

I might look for one with rear parking sensors as rear visibility is less than I'm used to. Unless the rear camera can be retrofitted?

I'm going for a used.

Having trouble deciding on the right one, not many local cars (South West my local is trying to sell a 2013 Zetec for £9,995) so using the internet.

Nautical Blue looks different in every photo I look at, sometimes I like it sometimes not. Not seen one in person.

For £10,000 I can get a 10,000 mile Race Red or Nautical Blue. 63 Plates approx September 2013 Reg. But 100 PS not 125, and no sensors.

For £9,500 I can get a 15,000 mile Candy Blue 13 Plates March 2013 125 PS with front and rear sensors.

Having trouble working out the real price I should be paying for any of them. These prices are current sticker ones.

Tried to get a discount on the £10,000 one but as it was being moved from another dealer in the group they were not budging. Might have more luck if I call the dealers directly.

Being picky with colours probably making it harder, Red or Blue are for me.

Any thoughts on current used ones would be good, also how good is the Ford extended warranty?

My 14 plate Race Red Zetec 100bhp with ~8950 miles (plus DAB radio + City Pack + Premium Protect servicing for years 2 and 3 left on it) was last advertised at £10,495 at the Cambridge dealership before it disappeared off the listing.

Choices choices.....

You should be able to haggle the price down a bit. If cars still have at least a year of warranty left on them then you could also look at private sellers (as long as you pay for an inspection). Even if you don't buy privately you can use the private prices to haggle down a dealer's price. Just make the point that the warranty is with Ford so the fact that you are buying from a dealer on a car this new means nothing, so the price shouldn't be so high.

Definetly test both, the dealers who didn't have the 125 or loads more 100 versions said the same thing, got to test two 100bhp and two 125bhp and although the 100bhp is a very decent town car but that extra 25bhp and 30nm of torque make a big difference (hence why people spend alot of money in tuning/remap to achieve such gains) the 125 is much better for motorway driving and as mentioned if you wantto put your foot down as the 100 version you get a bit of pull at the start and nothing at the mid to high end of the rev range.

Also as mentioned you can get a tuning box such as these, I have one on my 125bhp and it makes a big difference that 25-30% increase (trust me 55 - 60bhp over the 100 version with a tuned 125 is phenominal although the 100bhp version can be made faster than the standard 125bhp version with one of these) and you can use FOC30 Forum Code at the basket to take 30% off anthing on their site and its more than worth it as I love mine. Also you can keep your warranty as it's quite simple to plug in and just remove in like 2 mins when you take it in for any warranty or MOT's and theres no signs it was ever there :D

Also yeah mines a 1 year old titanium ecoboost 125bhp and you can get a good deal on them £10.5k, just don't let a dealership convince you they can fit parking sensors with a display sensor like factory fitted because they can't, so if you want a one with sensors you just have to find one with factory fitted ones.

Thanks! The upgrade sounds fun :D

Normally, I'd skip the sensors but the Fiesta has a bit of a restricted view out the back.

Was this Spider device easy to fit? Thanks Colin

Alot of fun ;)

Yeah I wanted sensors the same as although its not the worse for visibility, it's not the best.

On a Fiesta and my Giulietta, yes really easy, you get visual diagrams/guide of your engine and where to fit the two connectors, I can connect and remove the box on both my cars in under 2 minutes each. There is a 3 pin connector and a 4 pin connector so you cant even mix them up, simple :D .

Although on the Focus forum the 1.6 diesel engine is apparently a pain to connect one of the connectors too as the map sensor is behind a few engine peices so it takes a bit longer to get your hands into place to connect and disconnect but thats more a positioning issue of the engine layout rather than the tuning box and sensors/connectors. I would believe with the focus ecoboost having an almost exact engine setup (different turbos I believe) the connectors would be in the same place as my Fiesta's and easy to get too.
