New Car 😊

Featured Replies

I have had my old faithful estate 1.8 Zetec since 2004 it's a 2001,model. Now I must let her go and get a newer one she's just not reliable enough. And not worth spending more money on , I will be sad to let her go but needs must. I am going to be faithful to fords and are going for a new facelift focus about 2012 model. It must be manual and petrol , but what model ? Initially I thought 1.6 Zetec with 125 bhp. It my husbands mate says the new 1.0 litre is better , how can that be ? I only know a little about cars , thoughts on the 1.6 Zetec please. Don't want to make a mistake it has to last me. Ta.

Hiya

Depending on choice really, they are both good engines, same power unless you get the 1.6 ecoboost which is very good. You will pay less road tax on the 1 ltr. But if i was buying one then i would go for low milage.

Go for the 1.0 Ecoboost. Less to tax and hopefully a little more economical.

EcoBoost is newer, and should be slightly more efficient, and less to tax. The 1.6 is the Ti-VCT carried over from the Mk2 as far as I am aware. Still decent though.

1.0 ecoboost gets my vote over the 1.6

1.6 ecoboost for me!

I have driven the 1.0T (125) Eco boost in the MK3 Focus (64 Plate) and my new car, great engine!

Nice sound and hasn't been an issue when driving on motorways etc with 4 people in the car...

Bear with me please. Lols. What does the Ti-VCT mean ?

  • Author

Okay I partly understand , but doesn't that make it a more complicated if it should go wrong ?

I'd go for the EcoBoost myself, 1.0 is fine, 1.6 EcoBoost is probably a bit much if you're used to an older 1.8. I haven't driven a 1.6 Ti-VCT so can't compare but it's an older tech and slightly less economical and refined so I've read.

(But I do like something with a bit of go) I used to have an xr3i until my divorce forced me to sell it

In this day an age id agree with everyone else, get the ecoboost. Id probably go 1.6 but each to their own with affordability and what not, the economy of a car as mostly as good as the person in the drivers seat, id rather have the power available and not used than want it but not have it and the newer engines appear to be getting some good feedback which would pull me away from older designs.

1.6 ecoboost (180ps) will blow a standard XR3i away! They are also available in 1.6 ecoboost (150ps) guise though depending on which model you go for.

Cost wise will maybe go for 1.6 zetec they seem bit cheaper than the ecoboost but will see if I can test drive both.

My 1.0 ecoboost will blow the xr3i away also. Lol

Standard or remapped? :)

They will be cheaper because the technology of the ecoboost engine isnt there. You get what you pay for although im sure you will enjoy the drive in any mk3 Focus.:)

you got me! Mapped of course. lol

If your going to be around town then yes 1.0 ecoboost will most likely give better mpg. motorways the 1.6 will do better. Check honest john real mpg. Suggests that the 1.0t real mpg is 42.1 and 1.6 is 38.6

I have a 1.6 zetec and it's very nippy and torque the the 1.0t and no waiting for the turbo to spin up.

have you tried a 1.0 ecoboost, no turbo lag due to small turbo spinning up quickly.

I'd agree here the 1.0 a much better refined engine

Yay I bought the right engine lol

I away wonder what is meant by more refined. The comment about turbo spooling up , simple is referencing that off the block the 1.6 will move quicker, later to be passed by the 1.0t. I was not not referencing old turbo which the power suddenly kicked in later.
