Ford Fiesta Mk6 Duratec - Timing Chain Or Belt ?

Featured Replies

Hello!

My Fiesta is on 115k miles and has never had any real issues.

I rang around 2 garages today thinking it was time to look at getting the timing belt changed, they have both advised my engine doesn't have a belt its a timing chain and it doesnt need changing

Its a ford fiesta finesse, looking under the bonnet its a duratec engine

Can anyone advise ?

Many thanks in advance

The 1.3 duratec is chain

Doing some REG checks its showing: Engine Size 1242 cc

Does this mean my duratec engine has a belt rather than a chain ? :(

1242 is 1.25 duratec, thats belt driven

1242 is indeed 1.25

Go to Ford ETIS, enter your reg and generate a service schedule for future reference. the belt is 80k (approx +- 10k, can't remember for sure) and 10 years whichever comes first as far as I know.

At 115k and 12 years old I'd get it changed now for peace of mind

I'm doing a timing belt on a 2005 1.25 Fiesta on Wednesday, quite a simple setup so should be reasonably cheap to have done. Parts cost was only around £40 for a top brand.
