2015 Mondeo - Adaptive Headlights And European Driving

Featured Replies

Hi,

Does anyone here know about the LED adaptive headlights on the new Mondeo? Ford have been next to useless on advising whether I can manually adjust the lights for RHD driving on the continent.

There seems to be two schools of thought; one that suggests that the lights can be adjusted with a switch behind the light unit and a second that thinks if I turn off the adaptive element of the lights that the beam will be flat enough to not dazzle oncoming drivers.

Does anyone know? Has anyone here taken their car abroad, if so what did you do?

Thanks.

iantt, thanks buddy, I did a search but it didn't show up (not that I saw anyway!).

I'll have another look now, but if anyone has the YouTube video that would be brilliant.

Cheers.

Knew you would come the rescue. Lol

Well I am one of the emergency services after all ;)

So your all sorted with changing them now?

I think so mate, I'll let you know when I get my hands on the car! (I'm military looking to export a new car for a couple of years but having been burnt with my wife's car when we moved out here - it cost £700 for new lights - I wanted to make sure I didn't get caught out again).

thanks for all your advice :)

Hi All

Resurrecting an old thread here.

I'm moving to Geneva at beginning of next month. Considering a 2015 Mondeo with Adaptive LEDs. Can anyone tell me whether the full adaptive functionality remains after you've switched then to drive on the "wrong" side of the road.

Additionally, will that be sufficient to pass the French Controle Technique?

I had considered something with bi-xenons, but they seem like a major faff to convert unless they're the adaptive ones, and I prefer LED to xenon.

All help appreciated

Mike

Answering my own question, for the benefit of incoming Googlers who're wondering the same...

I test drove a 2015 Mondeo with Adaptive LEDs. When switching it from Left Hand to Right Hand driving in the vehicle settings, the headlight beam simply seems to be lowered.

So the (slight) kick-up to the UK near side kerb remains, but it's been lowered so as to not dazzle cars when you're in Europe. I can't comment on whether the full adaptive functionality remains.

On the other hand, the 2017 UK Focus with Adaptive Bi-Xenons (which I've since bought) completely reconfigures the headlight pattern from having a kick-up on the left to one on the right when you toggle the settings, e.g.

As an aside, I noticed that the Focus was initially misconfigured to have the Traffic (R/L) menu option set to "Right Hand". I wonder how many of these cars are being driven around the UK, dazzling oncoming traffic 🙂
