Plastics Respraying

Featured Replies

Was just wondering if anyone knew if it is expensive to have like the front grill plastic and that all resprayed?

Thank you in advance.

Nope, not dear at all

in fact why not do them yourself?

Was just worried it wouldn't look like a professional job if I did it myself.

Do you reckon the front grills and that would look good resprayed black instead of the grey that is it now?

No, not on a mk6 I think the grey actually looks quite smart!

Maybe just get some black restore and give it a good rub?

Was interested as I saw this and thought it looked really nice4.jpg

Yea back looks smart but the front might look abit odd

This is the front of the same car

I must say I've seen a couple of mk6's that are red with all the inserts and stuff gloss black and I must say I think it sets the car off really well.

Gloss black makes the car look tonnes better than grey! :) spray it yourself, just take time with prep and don't go too cheap with paint

What kind of paint would I need?, would it say in the haynes manual how to take all the grills and plastics off so that I could paint them?

Thank you everyone :)

I stand corrected, looks very nice!

Thank you everyone :)

The grills just pop out with several clips. The trick is finding them ;)

okay then thank you :),

what kind of paint would be best for this sort of thing?

And do you reckon it would cost much to declare this to my insurance company?

I haven't declared it to my insurance.. it's just like using trim restorer except the grey is going black! Aha

Just had a quick chat with my insurance just to make sure, they said that if I'm keeping the standard plastics and just repainting them then they won't need to note it down as a modification at all :D

Would it be better or cheaper to get them hydro dipped instead of sprayed?

That red fiesta is lovely. Going to have my blacks sprayed next month.

Are you spraying them yourself or getting them done?

And I was wondering is it worth buying a spare set of the plastics for when I sell it to put it back to standard or just sell it how it is

Oh no way am I doing it. I've found somewhere that's quoted me around £120 for rear valance, front grill and top part where the badge is.

As for spares, I don't see any harm in selling it how it is. I don't think one person can argue that grey plastic looks better than satin black haha

haha that's true lol,

Would love to get my car sprayed soon but I doubt the missus would allow me haha.

Make sure you post some pics up when its done :D

That red car looks great!

Hydro dipped is more expensive over here and is usually reserved for when you want to add patterns/images/prints to the material. I'm sure painting will be cheaper.

I'm planning on buying a second set of plastics to paint, along with refurbishing the wheels myself. YouTube has got a lot of great videos on how to do this stuff, check out this MightyCarMods video on wheels - the products will be slightly different for plastics but the process is similar.

If you didn't want to paint, there's some good products out there to dye your plastic black.

Hydrodjpping required the part to be painted with a base anyway.. so itll be more expensive.

Have a look at Rade Customs, manchester

Manchester is probably too far to go for me, I'm in Suffolk, so anything Suffolk and Essex area would be okay :)

You post parts to them, I have several times. They're good with prices & good people to deal with in General

I'm currently doing my interior plastics. I've never sprayed in my life and this was a risk. To be honest with you if you take your time, and don't rush it, it isn't hard and will save you a lot of money. I've given myself enough confidence to pull out my exterior plastics and will be spraying them myself. Maybe see if you can find a cheap spare set and have a shot with the primer first (after sanding etc)
