1.6 Zetec Burning Oil In Cyl 3

Featured Replies

Hello there Focus people!

Proud new owner of a 2000 Focus with 1.6 Zetec engine, here's the story:
140,000 miles
Changed oil when I got it, semi synthetic 5W-40, level ok
Drove 1300 miles (forgot to check oil level, my bad)
Checked the dipstick, nothing on there, !Removed!
Filled 3(!) liters to get it back up to max
It runs okay but needs a liter every 300 miles or so
Removed spark plugs to do compression test
Spark plug no.3 heavily covered in soot, 1,2,4 looks fine
Cyl 3 shows 2 bars (29 psi) on compression test
Cyl 1 shows 16 bars
The rubber seal on the compression tester blows out and I can not get proper readings for the other cylinders.
I will retest dry and do a wet test when I get a new tester
Piston rings on cyl 3 would be my best guess, but what's up with the high reading on cal 1? Could that be related to cyl 3?
Are there any typical culprits with regards to oil consumption in the 1.6 zetec?
Thanks guys!

My first impression would be piston rings in cyl 3 but I am not certain...
