New Key Programming....... Old Chestnut Anybody????!!!!

Featured Replies

Apologies in advance for putting everybody through the old "New key programming" saga AGAIN. I know many of you have read and experienced this epilogue, but I cannot find a specific thread which covers my situation exactly.

I recently bought a 2001 tddi as a runaround, great reliable car, very happy with it, however....... it only came with one key. The blue chip key, NOT a 3 button remote key in sight. There's the rub, I only have the blue chip key.

I have purchased a blank 3 button remote from Ebay, brand new. The previous owner of my car clearly has been using just the blue chip for a long time as the notches on the barrel are showing very evident signs of years of use. I have taken the blue chip key and the new blank to a local cobblers and had the new key cut from the blue as a template.

Now..... I have the blue chip key (opens/locks the doors, activates/deactivates the central locking and starts/stops the car), I now also have a new 3 button key which opens and closes the doors, activates and deactivates the central locking but will not start the car. It fits in the barrel nicely, turns to illuminate the dash lights and brings the stereo on, but will not 'fire' the engine up.

I have read a million different posts about programming etc etc, (as I'm sure you all have, and I apologise once again for making those weary eyed forumites re-live this) but none of the posts that I have read apply to programming ONE 3-button key off the blue chip key only. They all relate to additional 3 button keys from existing 3 button keys and involve 2,3 and 4 extra keys etc.

I need to know how to activate my new 3 button key from the blue chip key. If anybody knows how to do this (and is still reading the post at this point) I'd be very grateful if you could share the knowledge.

thanks in advance. Jonny.

Unfortunatly you wont be able to programme key using juet 1 original key, you would need 2 working keys to do that. So either go to ford to have key programmed or use a local auto locksmith to do it cheaper.

Does the new key have a chip inside it......some come without it if it does you still need it programmed to the pats system only if you have 2 original keys can you programme a third youreself so you need an auto locksmith to code the new key to the car you cant do it yourself in afraid

The other option is to carefully remove the chip from the bluetop key and transplant it into the new key.
