Led Side Lights

Featured Replies

So I've ordered some white LED 501 side lights for the number plate. The lights came in a pack of 4 so I've still got 2 spare and was wondering if it's Legal to replace them for the standard front side lights?

I never found any sidelight LED's that didn't go within 5 minutes and in one case found they caused problems due to the reduced resistance (headlights and dash lighting flickered on brake lights coming on).

I temporarily solved this by wiring in a standard w5w bulb in parallel with the LED bulbs to increase circuit resistance and hid it inside the light rear cover).

After a week the LED's began flashing so binned the whole idea and reverted to standard bulbs again.

You can fit resistors netween the bulbs and sockets but they can get very hot and melt plastic.

LED's ok so long as they don't have any coloured 'tint' ie pure white otherwise MOT failure.

I've been using 501 led sidelights since january on two cars and ive had no issues. they're about 4700k in temperature
