Mk6 Fiesta - Stereo & Mot

Featured Replies

Hi all,

So I've currently got a Mk6 Fiesta I bought cheap with no MOT... Have replaced a spring, tyre and brakes and done other easy MOT checks....but are there any common MOT fails specific to them that I should check? Any rust areas?

Also, the stereo (triple unit) has no radio reception at all, is that likely to be the headunit itself? I've tried testing aerial cable but my arms aren't long enough lol.

Cheers

Tom

I'll assume they all pass with flying colours then. ;)

Its at the test centre now...

Wheel bearings, lower CV joints, springs & brakes. The flexis also like to fall apart

Already had to change a snapped spring and front brakes.

But it failed. :(

1. Overheating stops emission test - the fan won't come on

2. Rear brake imbalance - I hate drum brakes!

So with the fan, it spins up with a direct 12v but I can't get it to work on the car. Doesn't even come on with the AC. Checked fuses and relay, both good (swapped for others as well). Any idea where the temp sensor is on the 1.4? Also is it only one sensor on these as the gauge reads perfectly.

Secondly, how much of a pain are removing the drums on these? It's not the type with an interference bearing is it? Like the old Peugeots? :(

Thanks for all the replies...

The fan resistor is broken so I've bypassed it for MOT, will have to buy another resistor but theyre like £60 from Ford!

The drums were the easiest to remove I've ever done...not like the Peugeot ones at all!

Feel like I'm talking to myself lol.

Anyway, passed today with no advisories! :D

The drum brakes are a fiddle to remove, I have to agree. Now the wheel bearings on the other hand.. require specialist tools (luckily we had) and a huge hammer! Again, which I had

So pray you dont find yourself having to replace one of those

No need for a hammer if you have access to or know someone with a hydraulic press

On the rear I used a bearing puller and it worked a treat.. on the front however, the bearing fell to bits and I couldn't attach the puller. So I attacked it with an cutter, a hammer & a chizzel.

I agree though, if you know somebody with a hydraulic press or don't mind paying a garage to do it for you then no, no hammers required.

if however you're a stubborn tight bugger like myself and take inspiration from Mr Clarkson then you will probably need a hammer :)

A friends radio had the same symptoms as yours, I tried changing the aerial screw mount, the aerial itself. Then I bought a 2nd hand radio unit off eBay. Worked a treat..... Until I had to put the dash back again. Those fan controls, they still give me nightmares. It's the knob closes to the driver that's the worst

In the video he saws off the middle bar which does make things a lot easier, but I decided I didn't want to so I installed the

Radio first

The heater knobs are.. Well, they're knobs. A complete knight mare!!!

I do have a mate that works in a garage with a bearing press now fortunately... I have 'driven' a few bearings in and out with a lump hammer over the years though lol. They're all fine on this Fez though. :)

Jonny - I have already had the dash out - and yes it's a complete pain on these...guess they didn't want anyone nicking the stereos lol! I 'think' I've got the knack now though, tried doing it in the dark the first time - big mistake! I've pulled a used stereo from a Fiesta at the scrappy today, so will try that later or tomorrow, hopefully it cures the radio issue, just gotta psych myself up for refitting those heater controls again haha.

Changed the headunit today, radio works perfectly! :D

Heater cable was easy as well, slotted straight in first time! Oh wait...it pulled the other end out. :( Took about half an hour to get the dash back together!
