Is there one that fits with the little door closed, or do we all have to drive about with the door open?

The one I use is a big ol' thing, and I've seen smaller ones online

Small Bluetooth one will fit no problems

I have one about 1.5cm deep once plugged in.

You could relocate the OBD port and fit a dummy port in its place. That way you have added security and you an leave it plugged in without worrying about it looking messy

I use the one in the above link and my coin tray can be left shut with it plugged into the OBD port.

I use that one and it's a good bit of kit.

I thought I was up to date with technology, but what does that little blue thing do? is it some sort of wireless connection, basically cutting the cord so to say? then again the car has Bluetooth, so what's the reason for the Bluetooth gadget?

Bluetooth OBDII diagnostics tool. Can be used to send diagnostics data to a smart phone & clear several fault codes.. so in a sense, yes the car may have Bluetooth, but not for this purpose it doesn't
