The combination of a never ending quest for lower emissions, longer service intervals, higher m.p.g. higher power outputs, dpf's, egrv's, just to name a few, combined with an excessive array of high tech sensors etc have all contributed to the diesel engine becoming as far from as it was originally intended to be as possible imo

Throw in poor maintenance & incorrect, or even absent servicing, incorrect driving habits & in the OP's case a woeful engine, then any engine will suffer - petrol or diesel.

Nevertheless, I am convinced that put to the correct purpose, a car diesel engine correctly maintained, is not & shouldn't be a nightmare of biblical proportions

The OP's engine is the exception rather than the rule of measuring diesel engine reliability imo & he does have my empathy

There are sound reasons why almost all heavy commercial vehicles & agricultural & heavy marine applications are diesel powered - reliability, engine longevity & fuel economy being amongst them

  • as proof of mileage the engine should come with info such as year and spec of car and the recorded mileage of the car it came from i do check engine numbers before buying cars as do many others includ

  • Lol..the DV6 isn't a Peugeot engine in reality, it's a joint venture between PSA and Ford. And used by Volvo, Suzuki, Mini etc as well. Yes it's a terrible engine, it doesn't even do what you expect f

  • Can I just say.. I'm not deaf or blind. No need for caps lock. At the end of the day. All cars have their issues. wether that be minor or major, they all have some kind of problem. Wether wear or tear

Prepare yourselves.

Our 2003 Renault Laguna 1.9 Dynamique TDI has done over 125k. The only issues we've ever had was a window regulator, the self levelling for the HIDs failed (easy fix) and the non return valve on the fuel primer. Engine wise it's not skipped a beat. It gets used for Towing large trailers with cars & bikes on, caravans & long motorway journeys. It may not have a DPF (never looked into it) but we wouldnt have a problem anyway as we use it for the engines designed purpose. We have two petrol cars for short journeys, one of which is mine.

This is a FRENCH CAR and it's not skipped a beat...

Wash your mouth out!

Wash your mouth out! [emoji38]

I'll redeem myself... As reliable & quick as it is... I'd never drive it. I've only ever used it to jump start my own car & tow my old one away on a trailer :(

If only you lot knew how bad some cars are .lol and particular models from certain manufaturers. Luckily ford dont have to many lemons now.

We've had lemons from Ford, Renault, Citroen & probably others, but we still buy their cars :)

If it can go wrong - it will :(

Sod's law I think it's called

Theres lemons with all son ate worse than others from experience from family working at the garage and cars ive owned or fixed the worst are without a doubt the worst Chevrolet then Citroen Renault and pugeot followed by fiat and Alfa Romeo VW are generally reliable but parts are expensive depending on model BMWs are over rated older ones are more reliable but sills rust badly parts are also expensive

My next car wont be a ford not for any bad reasons. Its been reliable only let down was the clutch never failed an mot either nor did the mk1 for me its cost since I can't buy new and change every 3 years ill be looking at hyundai and Kia main reason I the warranty 2nd is its almost like driving the focus but more standard kit and they are pretty reliable if ford extended the warranty IDE look at ford.

Ford are not the worst they do suffer from rushing cars out though the mk3 was supposedly tested over millions of miles yet they missed simple flaws and sadly ford still haven't banished the early rusting which I believe is down to the paint being too thin and easily chipped as for the ford PSA engine blame the euro bureaucrats for putting more and more limits on the cars manufacturers have to balance it out then you have people buying diesels who dont need them for short trips and town driving causing themselves issues even in fords brochure they state if you don't do 15k min a year you're better with a petrol the majority of fords I saw was simple fixes just bad dealers that didn't diagnose it correctly which is fords main weak point

Hopefully this will be the last post regarding engine problems on this car.

The car has been perfect for the past four days since the mechanic sorted the sensor. I went to the dealer this morning and they have given a fully covered engine and gearbox warranty for another 3 months. They informed me they have taken a bath on the car financially but they are glad that it all appears sorted.

Today I even felt confident enough in the car to do a couple of small addons, first was an aux cable from eBay and I just picked up a courtesy light with the map lights. Only small steps for now no point dumping a pile of cash in until I am 100% confident in the car.

Thanks to all who have added input to this thread, every piece of advice was greatly appreciated.
