Now had issue with flat battery!

Car was driven 50 miles on the Friday, not used Saturday and tried to use it Sunday but was dead with no folding mirrors or boot opening?

Measure voltage on battery was only 8 volts!

Put on charge and AA came after an hour and started with booster. Charging at 110 amps and was ok again after 20 mile run.

Checked it Monday and found 1/2 amp discharge from battery, pulled every fuse but could not find one that changed the figure? Going in to dealer yet again on 1st November which I imagine will be another wasted journey with no fault to be found! and there is still no word on the indicator sounder fix or touch screen. I am a regular there, think it has been about 7 times now!

All fords have heated rear window and could be also front window (if selected from pricelist when ordering) - so when you start engine and it is below +4, it turns them on. It is quite heavy load for generator, so consumption with that heating on or off is 0.5l/h difference.

Yours propably have problem with generator or battery or something else.

I have focus'15 made and in cold mornings noticed that rear window is defrosting, but i am waiting for front to defrost. So went to service - and they told that it is automatically switched on. In focus section i made topic about it - everyone is happy that it turns on both heated windows automatically. It is not well known feature - even ford's sales rep said - hey but you have button for that, bring it to service. When car's generator fails a bit for providing A to battery and other systems - this auto window heating feature will stop car in a moment you don't expect it.

It hasn't got above +4 here for the past few days and I'm not sure I have noticed the heated screens coming on, do the lights illuminate on the dash buttons to show they are on?

They do illuminate when the screens are on, well at least on they mk4 and the fiesta, so no reason to think they won't on the mk5.

first thing I do after starting is turn them off unless they are needed.

Well, on mondeo '16 made it doesn't show ilumination on buttons that window defrost is on.

On focus '15 made it also not iluminating heating procedure.

Only way to deactivate them is to switch them manually ON and after few seconds turn them OFF or remove fuse(but that's not wise, because one morning it will be needed).

Regarding issues - Does clutch noise have others m5 users? And standart halogen lights are very poor during night?

Currently riding focus '15 made as a temporaly car, but as long term car - 4 years lease wanted to order mondeo 5. But those 2 issues are quite important. And lights are very important. During winter a lot of hours being driven in dark.

Dealer found no issue with flat battery! No surprise there! While they had it they did the indicator sounder update and allegedly the touch screen but it was faulty again the day after. Have now been in touch with Ford who are investigating it? Perhaps I will get a result now??

Had new touch screen and control but phone fault still occurs, according to technician mine is the only car in Europe with this fault and there is no fix for it! Feels great having a 'unique' car!

also the auto stop/start has stopped working again, only occurs after very long drive, looks like battery number 2 if failing after another year, think I got a Friday car!

I have a 65 plate Titanium X Estate 2.0 TDCI (180) and am very happy with it.  I haven't seen any of the problems posted above but would like to throw another into the mix.  At 34,000 miles, I have just had to have the rear disks and pads replaced.  The inside pads were worn out and had grooved the disks.  I do a mix of motorway and rural driving and in over 40 years of driving have never been heavy on brakes - the dealer confirmed that the front set were fine.  I'm a bit hacked off that the disks and pads didn't even make it to the second scheduled service!  I can't see any other sign of such a complaint when I searched through the forum for brake issues.  Has anyone else suffered a similar problem?

It is a very very common issue I'm afraid, there is a Mk5 Facebook page that has this very discussion going on. Front brakes are fine, rear are scored and grooved and wear faster. I have read that they use 2 different types of pads/discs between front and rear.

Had this on my mk3 and my current4 seems very common, calipers are prone to seizing especially the rear near side, luckily it's cheap if time consuming to fix, I strip and clean the calliper pins every few months this seems to work and prolong the disc and pads

Think you will find it is the dual mass flywheel. Ford changed mine instantly quiet. Hope this helps

Second that for the rattles when changing gear, dmf spring will be busted. Anyone getting little rumbles through the clutch pedal which go away with the clutch fully down or half way should look at the concentric slave cylinder bearing.

the problem seems getting ford to admit somethings wrong with the clutch. I just had mine looked at and told the same that they are all like that.

the only thing that bugs me, is why people select manual instead of auto when they select company car... ;))))

Hi

I have a  mk 5 mondeo 2.0ltr Tdci Powershift lately seems to be alot of road noise ,cannot stand it I have 19 inch wheels,Pirelli tyres on the back ,continental on the front

Was wondering if it could be the tyres ,thinking about changing to same brand tyres on all 4 wheels

Regards Dave

Hello people. I’ve recently purchased a 2017 Mondeo ST line X. It’s the 180 power shift model. I’ve noticed that when over 75mph There’s a distinct increase in cabin noise. Can’t tell if it’s the engine or the wheels generating this noise. Sorry to be vague but if anyone can offer some advise as to weather or not this is normal, I’d be very grateful.

I'd be surprised if it's engine noise on the MK5, it's better insulated than the MK4 and the engine is fairly quiet for a diesel.  Personally I'd lean more towards suspecting the tyres, it's an area the people often overlook.

Thanks Damian. I’ve only had the car a few days, it might be something I’ve just got to get used to. It’s under warranty so I can always take it in if it’s something more serious. My previous car was the MK4 and I must say, the cabin noise is louder in the new one, but I suspect it’s the difference in wheel size and tyres.

Visually check the rear tyres for "stepping", quite a common problem - also run the flat palm of your hand across the tyres tread - if one way it feels smooth and the other way is rough/bumpy you have stepping which will cause tyre noise

The MK5 is definitely better insulated than the MK4 when fitted with like for like wheel/tyre sizes etc, I'd definitely be leaning towards the tyres and any deformation/odd wear, as mentioned by @TrevorB
