Remap

Featured Replies

Is it possible to remap 1,6 diesel to 110bhp ??

  • Author

I got a quote this morning from two different companies. They do it by software only and it cost 250 to 295 and no hardware is needed.
I'm wondering what's the average mpg and common faults

Do I need to report it to insurer etc ??

Yes you do

OK thanks. Definitely let them know ;-)

go to a reputable place to have it done and one with a rolling road so you can see the results!

dont just go to the cheapest place, last thing you need is a dodgy remap to blow your engine!

I've always been told that remapping a car thats about 10 years old is a bad idea. Or is that completely wrong?

It's probably true that a higher mileage vehicle will not benefit as much from a remap - due to the engine being comparatively worn, but a decent remap should improve the '' driveability '' nevertheless - especially a diesel engine

remaped mine at 155k no issues to report 5k later. apart fromone of the intercooler hoses splitting :P

i might try a more agressive remap as i know superchips tends to be on the safe side..

Nice, might go for one myself. My Focus is on 106k, looks pretty much the same as yours apart from the wheels!!!

My engine has done only 88,000 and runs smooth as silk. It's just overtaking on motorway and going up hill that makes me wanna remap. I got few places in Bolton to do remap. One place has even few remap options to choose from :-) But I go for "best seller" anyway. They call it blue remap.

My MPG is around 57 now in town. What is or should be average MPG after remap of my engine ?? It's 1,6 TDCI 90bhp.

M.P.G. may not alter that much, you may see a slight improvement

The original 90 BHP is probably down by around 10% @ 88,000 miles, so a remap to 110 BHP will be noticeable, but with a diesel it's all about '' driveability '' & torque

This engine seams to react best to remap. It gets 33% in bhp (120bhp) and 260 NM of torque so about 27% improvement
That's what they told me anyway

Those figures could be excessive, around + 20% to + 25% is considered safe without hardware modification

most powerful version of focus mk2 out of the factory is 1,6 TDCI 121bhp without modification and there is no hardware improvements. I think only disc breaks are 3 mm wider

This remap we're talking about is stage one out of 3 stages

Let's hope your engine is not the notorious DV6TED4 as that is inherently flawed & that's before any remap exposes the weaknesses

  • Author

I'll tell you if you tell me how to check that :-)

I'd also check that your gearbox is rated to cope with 260nm of torque as the original max' torque output is 215nm I think

  • Author

OK but how do I check that ????

I think your engine is the DV6 A TED4, so probably ok but it's worth checking to be sure

  • Author

OK but how can I check it ??

Type your registration number into Ford Etis & it might identify the gearbox & engine type

  • Author

1.6L Duratorq TDCi (90PS) - DV6

5-Speed Manual Trans - MTX75

Your engine is not the dreaded DV6TED4 & I'm checking your gearbox
