Computer Brains Needed On Windows Install??

Featured Replies

I have formatted a HDD for my laptop but done it in my HDD format device so its a complete

format.

Not a thing at all on the drive.

Im trying to put windows 7 in but i get ''NTLDR'' is missing,i can't think how i did it last time as

its only my spare HDD to fall back on.

I have checked the BIOS and it boots from DVD and it can see my make of drive etc.

Is it a dual boot PC? Ie. have you got it so that you can choose between two operating systems on startup?

NTLDR is NT Loader, a boot loader for all Windows NT based OSs. But from Vista onwards, it was replaced by boot manager (bootmgr) and winload.exe.

Thus Win7 doesn't have NTLDR, but when in a dual boot environment with an older windows OS, it can throw up this error.

When you say you are trying to put windows 7 in, are you trying to boot from an install disk? Make sure that your DVD drive is set in the BIOS as the first device it tries to boot from - 'boot priority' or something like that. That might help.

Also it's not always necessary to format the drive beforehand, as it can be done during the windows installation.

No not a dual boot, ill run you through what i did last time.

I put windows 7 disk in and booted, went to there you pick the partition.

Picked it and windows says 'can't load on the partition as it has MBR partition and windows will

only load on GPT partition.

So i did last time as i just found it,when it's on the page where you pick the partition press 'shift' and 'f10'

You have the promp page, type in Diskpart then enter,List disk and enter and the partition is there.

Select it and the clean and enter, convert MBR then enter,do the size i want and enter.

The problem i have now is when i select 0 which it is it says no partition selected.

To add to what you said,it would not format with windows in it,tried loads of ways, putting

disk in and re-boot and always says it can't format it,the only way way a complete wipe off a

Docking station with u.s.b lead to laptop.

And yes i have checked the boot in the Bios setting and it's all fine and can see the DVD drive.

Please help :)

Just 1 main thing first to clear up.

New install, not a thing at all on HDD..........what you pick ( GPT or MBR ) as i can convert.

I only use new-ish laptop say 3 years old upto new.

I'm getting a lot of ( windows can't load to this drive) HDD page on install where partitions are if there are any.

I don't need partitions, as of now it's just 1 drive of 500gb.

I think go MBR as it's only 500 GB.

MBR is good for drives under 2.2 TB, any more than this and you'd need to use GPT. Also you have to use GPT if you have UEFI instead of bios.

Also, in the boot priority, do any of the drives etc have an 'UEFI' or 'EFI' prefix? If so then use the same drive but without this.

You could also try disabling UEFI in the bios if you have he option to do so

I have had this issue before, if you have EFI or UEFI then get the OS iso mounted onto a USB drive, then load from that.

I used this to create a bootable USB
