Well Guess What Just Appeared On My Taskbar!

Yep, the logo that so many have clicked on and downloaded... The Windows 10 upgrade.

Just to be clear, I have no intention of clicking on it (not yet, at least) but now that I technically could upgrade, it has made me a little more interested in hearing how Win10 is coming along.

So, have any of you upgraded and if so is the OS getting better, or is it still a case of "avoid at all costs"?

It is considerably better than 8, and in my opinion on a par with 7.

However, the wifi does my nut in, as for some reason Hewlett Packard laptops take issue with Virgin routers, and it keeps dropping the signal. I hoped Windows 10 would have fixed it, but nay. And if I run windows diagnostics, it keeps trying to connect me to a neighbour's 'BT with FON' wifi network, despite me telling it repeatedly to 'forget' that damn network.

Otherwise, happy with 10.

No problems here with it, upgraded from 7. You could always upgrade then if you don't like it downgrade back within a month.

Mines improving, though even when I put it to hibernate the activity light stays up! its good if all you want to do is shut down and start up :p

Wow, I thought I'd be lucky if one member was using Windows 10 but it seems like a lot of you are. The reviews are making a strong case for 10, but I think I'll stick with 7 for just a wee bit longer...

What irritates me about it most of all is that it is called Windows 10!! As far as I am aware there never was a Windows 9 so why the jump from 8 (or technically 8.1) to 10? It ain't right!

Been on it as soon as my upgrade was ready, I say it is by far the best operating system Microsoft have ever released. Upgraded from 8.1 on my HP 23" AIO desktop that I only bought about a year ago, on older machines then there is probably more issues with drivers and such like, but overall i'm pretty happy with Win 10.

9 was a silent failed project as far as I recall.

upgraded to 10 still have not decided if its better than 8

I have 8 but running start is back so it has same layout as 7

For the most part I preferred 8...

Prefer 7, hate 8.

I have the update notification for 10 on my laptop and pc but holding off until more reviews are in.

Upgrading to 10, do all programs need reinstalling or do they just migrate?

I too am reticent about the Windows 10 upgrade

they do migrate but I find it all slws down and misbehaves so recommend doing a clean install after for best experience!

The reason there was no 9 is because a lot of older programs were designed to check for windows in the coding, and pre-2000 there was 95/98, and to save extra code, it checked for Windows 9/9x. Reworking a new OS with 9 all over the place would cause loads of compatibility issues.

Well, that is what I heard anyway. I haven't checked the facts but seems legit.

I upgraded as soon as I was available on the Microsoft website and it's excellent.

I upgraded a laptop that was crammed full of files and photos etc. and noting was lost or effected in anyway. All my programs operate and function exactly as they should. I've had no compatibility issues or anything like that and It runs quickly and quietly on my laptop. I've had no problems at all.

Its marginally better than windows 7 but a million times better then 8.

I bit the bullet & upgraded to 10 yesterday & all seems ok, apart from the CPU is spiking & consistently running at a high % & causing the cooling fan to be on a lot & I don't think this is normal as it didn't happen before

If anyone has any opinions or thoughts on how to rectify this I'd be grateful to hear them

Try a fresh install. Not everything upgrades nicely and it could have tasks running in the background that didn't cope very well with the change in habitat...
