Injector Seals

Featured Replies

Hi, i have a 2005 fusion 1.4tdci only done 54k. Getting faint fume smell and slight sound from under the bonnet... Been made aware that it's the injector seal/s that's causing it. Unfortunately I don't have the funds to fix this just now as just replaced the clutch! I know that the carbon will build up because of this but my question is, will it cause any real damage?

I had exactly the same problem. I drove for around six months from first hearing the noise (which was intermittent to begin with - at the time I put it down to the cold as I didn't get fumes then) to determining what I thought the problem was to getting it fixed.

I'm not sure if it would cause any damage per se; it didn't seem to in my case, but the sooner the better as as long as the injector(s)/seal(s) are failing, you'll get a build-up of tar around the top of the injectors which can harden and become increasingly difficult to remove. It can be a very messy job.

It's a common issue on this engine unfortunately. I've read that Ford use thinner copper washers/seals than eg. Peugeot do.

Out of interest, how much did the clutch replacement cost?

Ah that's good to know, just need a couple month to save... And clutch cost me £350

Personally I wouldn't risk it. Look on here about the damage the carbon will do to your engine. Plus the longer you leave it the harder and more expensive it will be to remove the injectors and seals. The seals are only copper washers that cost pence and you could do it yourself in an hour but leave it for a few months and you'll probably get seized injectors and a half days labour at a garage

Don't really want to risk it but can't afford to put it into a garage. I phoned a few today and none could tell me if it would just be the seals or the injectors as well... Could probably afford the seals but if it was the injectors too I don't have the money, and need the car. Tough one!
