Much better today Garry,

Fiesta went into safe mode so crawled it down to tuners. Left the engine running because I didn't want to risk clearing codes again before they could read them.

They plugged a laptop in by the OBD port with the engine still running (didn't know they could do that) anyway it was code P0204 which is injector circuit malfunction cylinder 4.

So they gave me the phone of the injector specialist who fix their injectors.

Giving them a call tomorrow, so it's a lot more hopeful than yesterday.

They told me it's not necessarily the injector, it could also be the wiring to the injector which could have been cooked in oil when the injector seals were leaking, it would be a breakdown of the wiring insulation in that case.

Like I put above it could have been any number of things so nailing it down to cylinder 4 is a huge help.

So anyone else having intermittent probs, those codes are the key, get them read with proper gear. My little orange re-set meter didn't give a code for this problem but it has been invaluable for clearing safe mode this last week.

Strangely, the motor runs fine with only a few stutters once fully warm and cleared of limp mode, can't think what that would indicate but maybe it might give the injector people a pointer to the true cause of that fault.

That's great that you have isolated the cylinder that seems to be causing the problems. Hopefully the injector specialist will be able to pinpoint the exact problem.

Are you still planning to have it remapped once it's running true.

Just depends on how it's running when this fault is fixed, like you I'm pleased with the way it runs but if it's nice and smooth when the injector prob is solved then I'll leave well alone. Hope to get better mileage once it's firing properly on all four again.

Did you do the mountings on yours yet?

Yeh did them on Monday. What a difference. No crashy steering now. Noticed a split rubber boot on one drop link and on one track end so will just replace them on either side. Just to give the front end a freshen up.

Il keep my fingers crossed for you and hope its something straight forward and not too expensive.

Any joy with the injector mate

It goes in this morning, borrowed a little micra in the meantime.

Good to hear the mount change made a difference on yours. I hate spending money on parts only to find it wasn't the problem to start with. (how many times have I done that!) Anyway I might find out a bit more later today. When I first got a diesel I was thinking injectors would be a bit like spark plugs but it is a ridiculous amount of work to change an injector compared with a spark plug. I think they made a complete bo!!ocks of it with the 1.4 and its leaking seal issue. I've not heard of other diesels having that problem.

It will be interesting to see if the diagnostics from the tuners was correct and the No. 4 injector was shot, we'll see.

Another diesel disaster day, went to the injector specialist thinking it was just cylinder 4 but he told me only the injector in cylinder 1 is any good as the other injectors are all shot. Just shy of a grand to sort out, that's serious dosh to fix a car that's worth at best 2k and that's with everything good.

Not sure what to do now, have to have a think about it.

Bugger mate that's not good. When he says shot what's wrong with them. They are about £120 from eurocarparts per injector for the 1.6 engine.

I'f it were me id be trading it in for something else mate.

Really need to keep an eye on mines for any signs of injector failure. It seems all to common on the modern diesel engine. Think it's the pressure the fuel is under that knackers them.

Had mine about 6/7 years never looked under the bonnet apart from fluids check, now it's time to pay the price! Still you have the right idea blanking and saving your engine, wish I'd done mine from the start.

Ah didn't realise you have had it that long. Mines is on 96k so I imagine there would be a lot of carbon build up in there.

Pulls well through the gears though.

I use mines for my work. I'm a community nurse so if its ever gives up on me I've got the option of a getting a lease car. They have really good deals. Can get a zetec s diesel for £80 a month. Only thing would be I wouldn't get the same mileage rate I currently get for using my own car.

Here my car. It's in immaculate condition inside and out
