Fiesta Mk7 Common Faults

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I'm looking to purchase a mk7 fiesta zetec 5 door in either 1.25 or 1.4 petrol guises around the 09-60 registration era. The cars available seem to range between 40-65k miles.

Aside from looking at the obvious (good service history etc) are there any common faults/failures to be aware of? I've had a mk5 fiesta, now with 120k on the clock which aside from regular maintenance and fair wear and tear has proved pretty reliable to I'm hoping the same on the newer model.

Thanks in advance.

Sticky gear change cable/pivot but apart from that very reliable.

My mate has an 09 1.25 with 186K miles on the clock, original clutch and only one water pump change, two wheel bearings and the gear change cables.

Thanks for the info. Blimey - that's some serious miles on a small petrol that's only 6 years old!

He commutes 125 miles a day down the motorway and never goes over 55 mph. The car has never broken down!

Surprised he's not in a diesel with that sort of driving! Thanks for the info though.

Somewhat off topic but the fuel economy in the petrol cars is surprising. My 1.4 got 50mpg on a back road going gently and was still climbing.

More on topic, you can't go far wrong with the 1.25 and 1.4. The engines have been in Fiestas for years. I'd more look at service history and how they've been looked after as any car however reliable can be killed by its owner.

If buying the 1.25, avoid the lower output version, & go for the 82 ps / 80 bhp

I have a 2009 1.4 zetec 3 door and its a great car however always check for any gearbox noise when the clutch pedal isn't engaged as this could be a input shaft bearing and this can be expensive to fix.
