Sunday Morning Drive In The Mg.

Featured Replies

Had a nice Sunday morning drive out to Danby Beacon, North Yorkshire moors. To blow the cobwebs out. So nice and quiet up there. :D

Great photos, I love the Rover/MG vehicles of the late 1990s/early 2000s. Really must buy one again.

Cheers, yeah I do (had a couple in the past).....saw how cheap they now are so brought another and love it. :)

Good for you. I miss my ZT diesel. Sorry now I swapped it for my 1st mondeo a few years back.

Nice pics.

Where was it taken?

Cheers mate, had a ZR 105...always liked the ZS 180...but too expensive at the time.....wouldn't mind a ZT V8. :)

Cheers mate, Danby beacon....just off the Whitby road, not far from Scaling dam. Know it from my old green laning days, but drove on roads to get to it this time lol. Where you from?

I like my Focus and it's MPG but I loved my Z TT, it's sad looking at it sat there looking sorry for itself.

I do miss a lot about it, the way it drove and handled for an estate car, the grunt of the engine (diesel remapped).

Who knows I might even get it back on the road in time unless I find somewhere so I can break it.

Blimey simcor don't break it. There are people looking for a ZTT diesel on the R75 ZT forum. My ZT had a ronbox on it and a DPF bypass and it was just as good if not better than my current 1.6 tdci mk3 focus. I'm actually giving it serious thought about going back to one.

Be around 80-90 miles away from you, must be some areas like that near you? :)

I liked my Focus too, but wanted something more fun. And use a van every day so didn't need a good mpg car. Saying that the ZS isn't that bad on juice.

ZT-T are nice cars, hope you get it back on the road. :)

Silly me. I had the EGR bypass on mine .

Sadly it's worth nothing mate. Need new master and slave cylinder again, needs rear shocks replacing plus handbrake compensatory plus will want new pads and discs all round due to the time it had been off the road. Plus it smokes like buggery and won't pass the smoke opacity test. If I could figure out what is causing the smoke I would stand half a chance. But it wants a lot of money spending on it and it's done 140K odd miles. So sadly it is worth more in parts.

See what you mean simcor. Shame but am sure you'll get a reasonable price for it as spares or repairs (as a whole car) or just parts.

nice pics and that super clean rover what else do you need

Cheers mate.......only other thing I need is my mk3 Escort on the road. :)

Always loved these MG's. I was a hairsbreadth away from pulling the trigger on one exactly like the one in the OP (except silver) but I heard horror stories of the head gaskets exploding on all MG's so got a mk1 Focus instead.

An urban myth I am afraid. Yes the K series engines 1.4,1.6 and 1.8 did have a reputation for head gasket failure and is well documented, but if they are looked after they can be as good as any other car. Any loss of coolant will lead to HG failure, the cooling system was too small and the dowels they used were plastic which didn't help, they did use metal dowels as well which helped a lot.

The V6 engine is a different engine and very rarely blows head gaskets as does the BMW diesel engine in the 75/ZT and the L series diesel in the 25/45/ZR/ZS.

Any car can blow a head gasket if it is not looked after or overheats, sadly Rovers got a reputation which quite often was unfounded

Yes there is in Huddersfield. My son works near Emley moor , which is a huge radio/ tv frequency mass. Can be seen for miles.

He actually works in an area called nr. bank in Shelley Huddersfield.

Cool, I like going out for drive in places that are quiet.....then just Park up somewhere for a few minutes to gather my thoughts lol. :)

If you read all the problems that cars may have.....you'd never buy any car lol :)

As said mines the V6, still has its problems but I'm not bothered......if it breaks, I'll fix it or use my AA warranty. Had a ZR for 3 1/2 years with no probs at all. :)

That just about sums it up. All cars have issues, you can't not buy one just because somebody had this or that go wrong with it.

Yes, our 1998 Rover 216's head gasket did blow, but the car never broke down other than that, and even when it blew it still drove home no problem to be repaired at a later date, and then carried on as normal afterwords.

Same here, although I usually have to stop at a McDonald's on the way... Gathering my thoughts is hard work and requires food.

Glad it's just a myth. I always regretted buying that car, wish I had now.
