First Service - 1.0 Ecoboost Black Edition.

Featured Replies

Hi all, it's time for my Black to get its first service at 12 months old.

It's got 7,000 miles on and I know the first service is usually just an oil and filter change.

I had 3 quotes and I wondered what you guys with the 1.0 Ecoboost Fiestas have paid and did you think it reasonable.

Main dealer service by the way.

Funnily enough just researching this today, 1.0 EcoBoost TitX with 9000 miles. Local dealer quoting £185 and confirmed it's just oil and filter. I have been quoted £80 by a local independent for the same job, using Ford official parts and stamping my book. I tried to haggle with the dealer but they said it's fixed and wouldn't budge.

Best I've had is from Nova Ford in nearby Newport (Shropshire) at £131.78

Highest was Furrows in Telford at £151.50

Has to be at most a 30 minute job, and parts I know through my work at a major car parts supplier are around £30 maximum trade for oil and filter if that.

So that seems like a right Royal rip-off of £200 an hour labour and the technician won't get that.

I've considered a VAT registered independent but not got quotes yet because of the warranty minefield if there's any doubt about what gets done.

Furrows also offered 12 months free breakdown/recovery cover included.

It's complicated as I live in Northern Ireland and one group (Trustford) have basically all the dealers. I did find another Ford dealer who is independent and been quoted £150, 20 miles away so doable. Although he said there is actually a pollen filter change as well and in my research that does seem to be case. I read on Pistonheads that people where getting Ford dealers starting at £99.

Ford does say on their website that warranty is OK, but of course they may change their minds if it explodes - http://www.ford.co.uk/BuyingandprotectingyourFord/Warranties/FAQs

Edit: With the exchange rate of the Euro these day's I've just emailed a dealer in Ireland for a quote out of curiosity, the border is 30 minutes from my house.

I'd do the pollen filter myself if needed.

It does seem that the dealers will also do any updates to software if there have been any and ensure any recall work has been done.

Still narks me that I could do the service myself with real care for the cost of the bits....

I wonder what their "general check over" involves?

Well ours has been recalled already over this, they wrote us a letter late last year - http://www.fiestastoc.com/forums/topic/173202-seat-belt-recall/

I suspect the "general check over" just is a look over the brake pads/suspension bushes for wear, something I think most independent mechanics would do anyway I would think. Apparently they recommend now changing the brake fluid over two years which seems overkill to me.

I'll update later with the Irish price, be interesting to compare. Phoned Ford UK and they said servicing it in Ireland would be fine warranty wise.

Think I will go with the £150 local non-Trustford guy though, as he was so helpful and getting the "Ford" stamp in the book is nice.

Don't forget the free breakdown cover with every ford service ;)

Latest update:

I emailed local Ford dealer and will now match the £150 price, even though they refused too on the phone.

Got a quote back from the Repubic of Ireland dealer, 150 euros which is £110 at todays exchange rates. Would cost about £10 in petrol to get there & back from my house so quite tempting.

And i got my bill for £127.00 from Furrows today, almost £30 less than they initially quoted.

It's back in not Friday for the rear seatbelt recall parts to be fitted.

Paid £130 at Furrows Telford

I paid £160 at Ford in Chesterfield with the special 1 year free breakdown cover! Couldn't be arsed looking to go to any other Ford dealers and it just needed doing. I'm handing it back before the next service hopefully.

This is the best place for service

Used Rates Ford for many years, very good - but only if you live near Thurrock (Essex) of course

I found out that the internal recommended Ford UK labour price to a dealership is £69.99 for the 1st service.  Cost of parts to them is around £49.00ish.  So your target price should be around £125 mark.  Trustford's £185 price is basically them making an extra £60 for bugger all.

I haggled them down to £131 in the end.
