Ford Fiesta 2003 - Issues

Featured Replies

Hi All,

New to this as i have just purchased a 1.4 2003 Ford Fiesta Zetec.

Since buying the car i have noticed in the morning or when the car has been sat for a period of time when i start the car, it will start first time however the revs drop and it cuts out. I have to hold my foot on the accelerator for around 5-10 seconds then it is fine.

another issue i have noticed -

I drove the car on the motorway and when i was breaking near to a stop there was a knocking sound on the drivers front side. It did this again yesterday after around 20 miles of driving.

Any input on the above issues is much appreciated!

Thanks!

The knocking could be the top mount or a lower ball joint.. probably the main culprits.

Give the car a full service. Plugs. air filter, fuel filter, oil filter & oil.

Clean the throttle body.

The coil pack and HT leads are common parts to fail on the mk6. Also, check for water around the spark plugs. The washer jets leak and water runs over the engine cover and into the spark plug well. this can cause misfires etc

Also check the lead into the ECU this gets wet and the contacts corrode.

May struggle as the plug is held into place with a rivet

You could probably check the connection in the loom for the ECU in the top right of the engine bay for corrosion. It's the one with a bolt holding it together
