Car Alarm Problems With My Ford Focus

Featured Replies

Hi,

Being new to the club I did not know what forum I should be using , hope this is okay.

I bought my Ford Focus Zetec (2010) in July 2014 from a local main Ford dealer. Soon after having the car alarm started going off when I opened a door (usually back drivers side) or the boot - only on a few occasions and always after I had just arrived somewhere - within a few minutes of turning the engine off.

Over the past 15 months the car has been back with the same problem 8 or 9 times -I have lost count. The have greased things, replaced switches etc. to no avail. It is still happening , admittedly rarely. I opened the boot the day after the last garage visit three weeks ago and the alarm went off. Nothing until last Saturday. I opened the back driver's side door it went off, cancelled with the immobiliser key, then opened the other back door and it went off again.

I am getting somewhat exasperated, they are talking about replacing a "loom" this time. They continue to be apologetic about not fixing it but have failed miserably to do so.

Any bright ideas what I can do about it please?

Cheers Peter

Hi Peter,

Have they checked for water ingress? I would hope you are not being charged anything for this, as the issue would likely have been reported in the warranty period.

Basically, if they don't sort it in the warranty period, and the issue comes back post warranty, they cannot charge you for their time and labour, as its still an item which would have been covered under the warranty period...

Hi Jeebowrite,

Thank you for your response.

No water ingress has not been suggested, I will mention it next time but I think it is unlikely since it has been going on for nearly 18 months and I would have thought it would have dried out or have been noticed.

They have relaced switches, greased it etc etc. They are now waiting for a loom and will replace that - I assume this should mean that effectively replace the whole thing.

No they haven't charged and they pick the car up and return it to home. I am on first hname terms with the Service Manager , who is always apologetic.

The previous owner told me that she had no problems, I am not sure I believe her.

Cheers,

Peter

Glad to hear they are treating you right...

There was something I read before of water ingress into the battery backup unit which can cause similar symptoms, this was a while ago though
