Trying To Trace Previous Keepers Of My Car

Featured Replies

Hi all, Im trying to trace the previous keepers of my new car, as to trace some of its service history as its missing alot of it. I bought the mondeo txs 3 weeks ago the prev keepers was a dealers in lancs who's service manager used it fro 6 months before they sold it in the trade all i got of them was they did an oil change and rear susp bushes. Ilooked on internet searches and found my car had a personal plate on it prev, and this is now on another newer model mondeo txs. Is my only option paying the dvla fee for keeper history..

The dealer should be able to trace back all the service/mot data for you and get you a service book free! When I bought my focus I didn't get a service manual so queried it, 2 months later I was sent one with all the service history marked in it (not stamped as it had been serviced by another garage in the same dealership) along with a printout confirming dates etc which also coincides with the info on the government 'check your mot status' page. ( I should add that after another month I received a second service manual lol )

You won't get the DVLA to give you previous keeper details unless there is a good reason for you wanting their details. Trying to find out a vehicles service history would not count as a valid reason to get those details I am afraid. It would be breaking the data protection act to release details without good reason.

Isn't the last keeper named on the V5C ?

Yes the last keeper address and name is on the V5 but trying to find out details of any other previous owners you have to have reasonable cause.

If, & it's just a if, the car has been serviced by Fraud, I think they keep computerised records of the service, whether this is on just the dealers database or a wider Fraud one I'm not sure but I think it is, as it would be logical for Fraud to know any given cars' service history

Doesn't help with former keepers I know, but possibly a way to find out something about the service history

Thanks guys for your replys, Iknow the last keepers details , its the ones before im trying to trace.

to be honest Ford should be able to print a service history if they did it.They wont be able to trace the old owners, as your account is you, not the vehicle. So inputting the reg doesnt bring up history.

To be honest, much like I had to, just take what you have and make the best of it. Look after it going forward, be proactive where possible, and take extra measures!
