Whats The Box?

Featured Replies

So was in my local Ford Dealer the other day and looked at the 2016 Fiesta Zetec S. The model they had didn't have the auto wipers etc but there was a box stuck to the inside of the windscreen to the right of the rear view mirror. The sales guy had no idea what it was?

Any ideas?

as far as I am aware there was no extras on the car. It was a Zetec S

Is it the rain sensor for the intermittent wiper control

Pretty sure they don't have rain sensors for intermittent. Only auto wipers have rain sensors. Intermittent is speed sensitive normally.

Did it have climate control? In my dad's car the box by the mirror is the moisture sensor.

Its the gps unit for the emergency assistance on the sync feature

The car doesn't have auto wipers or headlights. My last Zetec S never had this box and it had the emergency assist.

It's for the emergency assist, what year was your ZS?

Or could be the sat nav aerial if its got audio unit with nav as an option specified on build

Mine was 2014. It didn't have sat nav either.

it is the GPS antenna for the Emergency Assist, Standard on the Zetecs and above i think. My 2015 65 Plate Zetec has this. no extras like auto wipers or anything

Definantly gps antenna for sync emergency assist , just looked at 3 different fiestas and all got the antenna located in the box.

Ok so have they changed that from slightly older models? Though mine did have auto wipers etc so would the sensor be within that?

The rain sensor would probably be seperate and further down the windscreen. The GPS antenna is right at the top of the windscreen in the black area and is not attached or merged with the rear view mirror. It just sits next to it. See below image of mine

It's my understanding that Emergancy assist has only came with the 2013/14 models onwards?

I've a 2015 titanium x and doesn't have the black box like that. I don't have satnav.

Ah ok. Mine had the emergency assist but not a separate box like that. Must have been incorporated into the wiper/light sensor unit
