Oil Pump Failing?

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

I have a fiesta Mk6.5 Zetec s tdci on a 56 plate, she's coming up to 94k and had a new turbo fitted at around 83k.

Recently the oil light takes a long time to extinguish when started the car (5 to 10 seconds) and usually flickers when it does.

Sometimes the oil light when then flicker whilst the engine is cold but stop when the engine gets to temperature. But when the engine does heat up it then starts tapping under any amount of revs.

Car drives fine and no loss of power. I dropped the oil, flushed it and refilled with some 5w40 because of its mileage. This cured the problem for about a week or so but now it has returned except now when the engine gets to temperature the oil light starts flickering when braking and then just flickers when stationary until I move again.

Hope this makes sense. Am I looking at a failing oil pump here or something else?

Hope somebody knows an answers to this and thanks in advance.

Regards, Chris.

Could be the pump or the oil pressure switch, do you know the service history of the car?
