Any Other Lumia Users Here?

Featured Replies

On Wednesday I received my long awaited phone upgrade. I initially got a Nokia (now branded Microsoft) Lumia 520 in December 2013 and it was a good phone, but met a watery death a few months ago and was then replaced with a cheap £20 Lumia 610. That was a real step back as the 610 was a year older than my already aging 520 and ran WP 7.8 rather than 8.1.

I was not very happy!

But it did the job and thankfully at the start of the week I was able to order an upgrade from Three. I knew it would be another Windows Phone as I love the OS and went for the better of the two available (535 and 640).

Anyway, I'm not going to go into specifications and all that because that isn't really important to me. All I know is it is a fantastic phone which I'll be happy to use for the next 23 months (upgrade 1 month before 24 month contract expires).

It'll be interesting to see how Windows Phone 10 is when it is released for my model. I'm happy with 8.1 for now though, as a phone is the only platform that 8.1 is actually GOOD on.

The main benefit of the 640 for me over something like the Samsung Galaxy S6 (which did enter my mind a few times) is that the monthly cost with a 600 minute/unlimited texts is only £19, which would be over £40 for an S6.

What data you getting with that mate

What data you getting with that mate

500MB per month which is bugger all but I only browse the internet at home using my WiFi so it makes no difference to me.

Outside the home I barely get a signal anyway. When I had the 520 I checked my monthly data usage and it was around 5GB using WiFi and about 100MB on mobile!! Literally only used to check emails when out and about (when I got a signal).

Got the 635 as a work phone, and to be honest, I find them quite basic. Perhaps it is just this model, but I cant say I enjoy them very much!

Basic is what I want though. I only use a phone for texting and calling - with the occasional email thrown in from time to time. The internet feature is used about once a week if I'm honest and only if I don't have my laptop close by.

To be honest a brick phone would do for my uses, but I still want something with a bit of oomph behind it if you know what I mean.

I had a Lumia 535 for a couple of months after my HTC one M7 digitiser got knackered thanks to a pillock knocking it off a shelf twice. So I bought the 535 as temporary phone, I found it irritating to use the touch screen on that one was useless to say the least. I liked the windows o/s on it though and even tried the beta version of windows phone 10 and again it seemed pretty good.

I was starting to get really fed up with it within a few months, I was hoping the one M9 would be available with Android or Windows phone as they had Windows phone on the USA version of the M8 and it was rumoured to be launched in the UK, sadly it didn't happen so I went back to Android with the M9 which I love as much as my M7.

If this phone had Windows on it it would be an even better phone but Android does for me.

Now I know I am talking about a £90 phone versus a £500 phone but the difference is night and day, budget smartphones are all generally rubbish in my opinion.

But as always it is all personal choice.
