Hi there, As I parked the car the red light in the middle of the dash (at the top) started flashing and I can no longer start the car. It does not appear to be flashing any code; as I tried counting the flashes and the pause (I found this out on the internet) and I stopped counting after 44...

The 2 remote key fobs will allow me to lock and unlock (but only after several attempts) the car but it will not start? The battery appears to be OK as the lights and everything else work.

Any ideas? Car is booked into Ford but how do I get it there etc...

It sounds like a fault with the immobiliser circuit somewhere, the fact that both keys fail to start the car would suggest a damaged transponder ring on the ignition or something similar rather than a key fault.

If a key was just not recognised then you would get some form of flash code, the fact that you don't suggests a receiver error.

Have you tried putting a key in the ignition and leaving it turned to II for a minute to see if it is detected?

Have you adjusted the steering angle/distance recently which may have damaged the wiring?

TBH, I would call an auto locksmith as at least then they may be able to get the car started in it's current location rather than getting it to a dealer (most likely need towing)

If you have something like home response cover with AA/RAC/Green Flag then they may well assist in towing to the dealers as part of your service.

Hi there I may have given you the wrong age of the vehicle. I think it’s
2009. Anyway I have removed the cover wher you would normally insert the key
and although there is what looks like a hole to put the key in, it does not fit
in. From what I can tell it’s some sort of dummy keyhole. So I wish I could do
the key thing.

If you do have any ideas I would greatly appreciate it.

Simpler then.

Change the batteries on both keys as they need battery power to be read by the keyfree receiver in the car.

You need CR2032 batteries.

I'll post a pic on how to do the batteries if you need unless you have the handbook in which case the instructions are in there.

I will try that thanks... However how likely is it that both key fobs need battery at the same time. I cannot say that i remember when I last changed the battery for at least 1 of the keys but dare I say that it is less than 6 months.

If the key is in your pocket and in with loads of other keys etc.. it's surprising how fast they can run down.

Do you have anything like a dashcam/phone charger plugged in permanently?

In my experiences these can interfere with key signals.

Hi there. Unfortunately battery theory is no good. It is actually worst now as I can no longer get into the car... Imhave no dash cams or any other external device. The keyfob is not attached to any bunch of keys or any other electronic devise that would interfere with signal. Any ideas of how to now get into the car? As to be able to tow it etc... To the Ford garage next week?

Not to be pedantic but are the batteries the right way round and the contacts making good connection?

Your keyless fobs should have an emergency 'E' key attached so you can manually open locks although be prepared that the alarm may sound.

Can you post a photo of your fob (or one off internet) so I can advise on the E key location?
