Dipped Beam & Side Light Not Working

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've been having problems with my headlight for about a week and can't figure it out. Basically I use to be able to tap the headlight unit and it would come back on, I've had the bulb out and switched it over and they seem fine. The indicator is still working also.

The main light went out last night after working I did start the car and it went straight away like it blew - though the bulbs seems fine.

What could be the problem? I've tried to test the fuse though cant find a location for it. I've taken out the connector and cleaned it off and nothing.

It's a 2011 Fiesta Zetec S

Thanks.

Tapping the headlight indicates a loose positive connection or a loose earth

Tapping the headlight indicates a loose positive connection or a loose earth

Sounds like an expensive trip to the garage then? :/

get it fixed before all your lights stop working

Not necessarily, the fact that you tapped & therefore moved the lamp unit demonstrates there's a loose connection - have poke about with the connectors - with the ignition off - & maybe something will become obvious

I've done some more fiddling with it and would appear a whole new light unit. I switched the lights around to see if it was the connectors as I don't have the tools to check voltages etc. Anyway, my passenger side light is working fine on both connectors, my drivers side is still out on both even with a change of bulbs. Indicator works fine on both and so does high beam. It's just dipped and side that's gone completely.

Try an auto electrician first they're more likely to fix it the ford who'll just want to replace the whole fitting

Good news is, I have managed to fix it. I came home today after been away all week so not had the proper tools on me. I took the light out completely and pushed the connections into the sockets (No idea if they were out at all) and nothing, changed the bulb to a red led one (testing as I upgraded both of my side and dipped bulbs H7 and white side light) anyway, red led bulb worked straight away, so I used the factory side light and worked... wish I had thought of that in the first place but, even though I did change the main dipped beam and nothing... so wondering if it's the main side light been at fault?

Either way, none of the bulbs seem to be damaged so was a little confused. Either way, back to 'stock' headlights until saturday when I go and buy a replacement H7 light.

Thanks for the help though guys, saved myself some money :)
