Overheating, Loosing Coolant

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, can anyone tell me why my car would be leaking from here? I managed to take a picture before. The Coolant system has been pressure tested and the mechanics say it looks fine but this is the 3rd time it's leaked. Think this could be a cheap fix? Thanks

Thats the drain plug on the radiator probably needs tightening up, if it feels tight already, loosen it off a couple turns then retighten

Thanks for the reply but isn't the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator? Looks like it's leaking from the top screw, if that was loose would that cause pressure to build up, just hope it's not a leak in the head gasket

Isnt that photo of the bottom of the radiator? With drain plug and below drain plug is rubber mounting that radiator sits in?

The slotted screw head is the drain plug with a rubber seal between plug and radiator.

I had one leaking last week after draining coolant to do waterpump on fiesta, took 2 attempts to get it to screw in and seal correctly

Dont be tempted to over tighten that drain plug, theyre plastic and will snap off (the heat weakens them)

one thread of plumbers tape on the threads will help if it still leaks

Jamie

Dont think plumbers tape will be any good as thread has slots down them, the rubber washer/seal provides the sealing action.
