I haven't driven for 9 weeks, and am getting seriously bored!

I broke my collar bone in September wrestling a lion (actually I fell off a pavement-sober!)

The bone was poking up into the skin, so after an operation, a titanium plate and some hefty physio sessions, I'm still not ready to get behind the wheel.

Anyone else been out of action for this long for a similiar thing?

By the way, I drive for a living, so have had 9 weeks off - (paid thankfully!)

I want to drive again!!!!

My mother who has epilepsy had her licence taken off her for 12 months (10 month in now) all because a Dr wrongfully said she was having fits which she has not had one 30 years, obviously the DVLA wont take her word for it or even her doctors after they sent a letter to the DVLA with medical evidence proving the fact she has the condition under control and that she has not had a fit.

She misses driving really bad and cant wait to get back behind the wheel but for now I'm her chauffeur.

I've had my car with me since August (Mounts Bay in Falmouth and Wave Knight is Portland and Plymout)

I want to drive full stop! So far finances haven't permitted me to move any further than a provisional.

Around £30 per lesson, give or take a tenner depending on the company. Doesn't sound like a lot, but when I do something it is "all or nothing" so I'd prefer to buy a block of lessons for £200-ish and be done with it.

Hopefully one month I'll have enough money and will just go for it. Once I get the first lessons out of the way I can power towards passing my theory and then my practical. It's just getting over the first hurdle.

It'll be the best investment for life that you'll ever make, & worked out over a lifetime of driving is as cheap as chips.

Try & book 2 hour lessons as you'll learn & retain more knowledge than if you book one hour lessons :)

Driving in general, and especially long road trips are enjoyable.

The only downside is the dent it makes on your wallet - fuel ain't cheap, and my car only gets 40-45 MPG with a light foot. :(

I think most people would agree that car ownership & associated driving costs are not cheap - but compared to taxis & trains & public transport in general & adding in the convenience factor of door to door departure & arrival, it's just about reasonable i.m.o.

I have not been able to drive for a few days(car in garage) and its really doing my nut already so God knows how you feel mate. I went on my first bus in a few years, I did not have a clue what I was doing lol, I sat at the front top so I could at least pretend I was driving 😀 i found it quite a surreal experience. How have you found getting around?

During my Volvo period, when the Volvo was off the road, for a week or so, I used a combination of train, bus and then taxi to get to a client, around 50 miles away. Had I driven it would have taken about an hour each way - it in fact took 3½ each way.

Your experience there validates my point

It's worse now time wise, than it was back then. When I found my Focus, in a tiny village in Hereford, and was looking at the most expedient way of collecting it.

By train and bus, the fastest option was 6¾ hours, on the train alone! Bus would have added another 40 minutes plus waiting

Yeah probably helped that I used to drive a van around the garden centre I used to work at before having a licence I had also studied the theory for a long time before getting it done, first lesson was on a car park then second was checking I knew how to do maneuver the car properly and lastly my third was simply just driving putting them all to practice.

I did mine in a Mk1 Golf, at the heady cost of £6.50 a lesson. :)

My mate, didn't even have lessons, he was doing his bike test and thought he may as well do his car test afterwards, if he could a cancellation: which he did. Borrowing his uncle's car, having never driven it. He passed both

That's what I am thinking, given that I have studied the theory and been a daily passenger in a car for over 9 years. I had doubted myself though having been told by a few people that "oh no you need at least 20 lessons!".

I'll buy a few individual lessons and then start driving the Primera back and forth to and from work (with my mother a passenger, of course) which is over 30 miles per day. Should be ready for my test in a month or two of doing that daily.
