Attempted Theft

Featured Replies

Hi, I have recently bought a 2009 Fiesta Zetec S 1.6 (90) TDCi. (2 Weeks Ago).

Just yesterday I returned to find that some scum bag had tried to steal the car. They gained entry via the driver door. The handle is missing, they must have used a screw driver to pop the latch.

Inside the vehicle they have pulled off the plastic steering cover, and chiselled out the ignition from the metal chamber. In doing so the metal chamber which is part of the steering column has been broken in half which is what hold the ignition barrel in place. I have managed to put the ignition back into the correct position along with the immobiliser and the car starts.

I would like to know advice on getting this fixed. Costs etc as I am unaware of the steering column is hydraulic or electric. I wanted to get advice before I phone my insurance company today. My excess is 250 voluntary and 200 compulsory. 450 in total.

All advice is welcome. Thank you

Cant see it being a cheap repair as I recon you might have to go through Ford. But you might get the full set up ( keys locks ) through a breaker, but will obviously be coded,

But it might be cheaper in the long run as it saves making a claim on your insurance which will have an effect for a few years.

I would make enquiries first before going through insurance.

But at the moment my priority would be making the car as secure as possible. Not trying to scare you, but they were maybe disturbed and followed you home to finish off what they started.

Thank you for your reply. I have had the police found now to take fingerprints etc. So now I've been able to take a better look. The ignition has lodged back into the steering wheel chamber where the metal was snapped off and it seems like it's holding in place. Provided I buy new plastic casing I don't think j will need to bother changing the steering wheel column or the ignition chamber (should they be desperate) I do however need a new colour coded handle and possibly but not certainly a door mechanism. The car is secured for now in my gated rear garden!

Scum bags.

I would keep to parking inside the gate as much as possible, and if possible a heavy link lock on the gate..sounds like these characters who got into your fez were disturbed, possibly by yourself without knowing it,or got something wrong with their "wrongdoing"....the feckless skiving no marks..anyway I hope you get the fez fixed up okay fella...

Hi Mate,

I have a steering column for sale if that helps mate....

That sucks a lot! I wish we were aloud to wire our cars up to kill anyone that tries to steal them... a 50000v electrical system that only you know is there...

Good luck!

Marcus

For the handle a lot of breakers online are useful... I have got loads of parts that way!

thieving scallies.

Is there any CCTV in the area? I sympathise with you, and hope you get it sorted cheap, but in the meantime, keep to locking it up safe...

I would suggest moving your OBD Port elsewhere, in order to prevent someone from bypassing the immobiliser and security protocols.
