Declaring Mods

Featured Replies

So i recently installed the body lip kit on my fiesta, tinted the windows wrapped the chrome black and boot chrome white, changed the fog light surrounds to black ones and installed a new grille, I'm assuming i only need to declare the body kit on my insurance or do i need to include the fog surrounds and grille?

Any changes from standard should be declared.

Not all modifications will put the cost up - but that depends on the company.

My last insurers were happy to accept DRL's as OEM spec (they're built into the fog light housing) and just made a note of it on the file. Current insurance company have listed it as a mod on the policy. But the chap I spoke to on the phone was pretty sure that they didn't affect the price...I'm inclined to agree.

I have found that some insurance companies are fine with certain mods but they must be declared, cosmetic changes don't really change too much although bodykits and tinting would. On my (currently) stock mk6 I have declared air intake and exhaust mods, both of those changes I think cost me a total of £9 more than if it were stock. Its best to declare anything you do else the insurance company can just refuse to pay out if its not listed.

if you tell then all the mods you cannot go wrong

Thanks for all the advice, I have phoned up and got everything I've done added to the file on my policy.

Thanks.
