1.4 Tdci (Hdi) Vs 2.0 Hdi - Behave The Same After Cambelt Snap?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Don't worry my mk6 hasn't snapped a cambelt - its currently being changed along with the tensioners at the moment - I just wanted to ask if anyone knew if the 1.4TDCi behaves the same if the cambelt snaps compared to the 2.0 HDi engine.

Both engines are the PSA HDi engines, both are 8v, I have owned a 2.0 HDi 8v Xsara Picasso and found an interesting fact about the engine, the valves are inline with the piston and if/when the cambelt snaps the piston makes contact with the valves. When this happens the valve is pushed up rather than being at an angle and the rocker arms are specifically designed to break rather than the valve bending.

This means that in most cases to get the engine up and running again you just need to replace the belt and then replace the rocker arms if they have broken. This is why if you check on Ebay there are usually full sets of 2.0 HDi rocker arms as these usually need replacing.

Just wondering if the 1.4TDCi (HDi) engine has the same sort of arrangement with regards to valve placement?
