Fuse Keeps Blowing, Why?

Featured Replies

hi all, i am trying to get my 2001 1.3 fiesta started after a while being stood but it seems to keep blowing the 10a fuse under the bonnet, why might this be? i can only think that it might be the fuel filter or a relay maybe, help please?

What is on the circuit??

If the fuel pump is;

When was the fuel filter last changed?

not too sure what's on the circuit, i have a feeling the lights are if that helps, i don't have a clue about when the filter was last changed, would make sense that the filter is clogged with crud, it's been stood for ages and with only a bit of fuel, might i need a new filter? thanks for your reply

just checked, it is the fuel pump fuse that keeps blowing :(

Because the car has stood unused for some time the fuel pump MAY have seized & that's MAYBE why the fuse is blowing

How much fuel is in the tank ?

Unplug the wiring to the pump and try it again.

there is enough fuel to lift the needle but it's still on red thinking to quarter fill the tank and put some of that 'fuel system cleaner' type additive in but not too sure

Fuel additive will not be an instant fix & in any case you need the engine running first - try Stef's suggestion above first & then determine if the pump is seized or not & definitely top up the tank
