dragged my jump starter out off the garage been charged up every 3 mouths , and guess what it will not charge up so that's the third flat battery in two weeks , lucky I got a new one from halford so bike , car and starter o.k I hope :)

It must be the week, for battery death

I've inadvertently killed a perfectly good Varta Silver Dynamic battery, by letting it drain down too much :iim:

I might be able to save it by parallel charging it with another: it was only bought in May

Take it back for a refund matey, charge it up enough and then take it back! get a replacement - it shouldnt be dead from just one drain!

It's not even properly cold outside yet! Another few weeks and the forum will be flooded with dead battery threads lol!

That's a good idea, I believe the warranty is 5 years on these. Sending it back is going to be interesting though, I bought it mail order from Tayna, I shall have ascertain how exactly you send a battery back to them.

We don't really get cold down here in Dorset: our cold is warm spring day to the rest of the country. 2009 was the last time we had a proper traditional English winter

I seem to have resurrected my dead Varta Silver Dynamic battery, in the meantime, before Tayna have replied to my email.

It was parallel charged for 36 hours, after which it had got enough voltage to be recognised by the charger. I didn't hold much hope that it would charge much further - 4.97V between the terminals before the parallel charge: 12.36V afterwards.

However, it's now at 80%, it's passed a load test, and it's continuing to accept a charge. Whether or not it will hold it is another matter

Batteries are pretty durable. We had a budget Duratec battery in our old 1998 Rover 216 and it survived being left dead for months and still held a charge for a few days after being jump started.

In theory it is the right capacity as a reserve battery for the Focus. (E38, 100 type)

However, I'm not sure if, as some of the web claim, Varta Silver Dynamic batteries are Bosch S4 and S5 rebranded; and thus are the correct calcium batteries.

Or, as the rest of the web claim, are improved performance bog standard batteries: and not calcium. Tayna, where I got it, don't say it's calcium: but they don't say it's not either
