Egr Blanking Valve

Featured Replies

Hi is any one reasonably local to Southend that would be able to remove an egr blank plate for me I had someone fit it but it now blows really bad and the EML light has come on I have managed to loosen the egr but can not get the plate back out if anyone could help me out I am happy to pay?

Thanks

Jason

Why would you want to remove it?

  • Author

Because it threw up the engine management light

It's better to have the EML on than the consequences of an unblanked EGRV

  • Author

Had it unblanked now as it was blowing with the plate in

Where was the blowing coming from ?

  • Author

I'm not sure really just when the car was under load there was a really high pitched whistle

Oh . . ok . . seems odd to remove the blank if the source of the blowing is unknown

  • Author

Its because it only started after fitting it and everything was tight as soon as I removed it the blow has stopped now very strange

The blowing must be downstream of the EGRV / blanking plate location plate then - as the plate prevents exhaust gases from entering the EGRV & consequently the inlet manifold, so it's likely that gases are escaping somewhere between the exhaust outlet & the EGRV inlet

I suggest you inspect connections downstream of the EGRV & especially the EGRV to intercooler hose

Blanking the EGRV often illuminates the EML & in itself is not a problem & has no negative effects

Say goodbye to your turbo..

I'd rather have a whistle and a light than the bill for a new turbo

  • Author

Well it's been ok for 100k and not this whistle you wouldn't

Thatl more likely be a loose boost pipe. Check intercooler pipework for loose jubilee clips or splits.

Unfasten the intake pipe that connects to the inlet of the turbo and check for any side to side or back and forth play.

It's none of that as soon as the plate was removed the car is fine again now

Your plate must not have been fitted correctly. It made no difference to my 1.6 tdci when I fitted mine.

Where did you get the plate from

Did your make the noise as soon as it was fitted?

Got mines off eBay too. No engine management light. I've got a 56 plate zetec s 1.6 tdci.

What year is your car.

Yeah the second it went in mine is a 2010 zetec s tdci

Blanking any electrically / electronically controlled EGRV is highly likely to illuminate the EML - this illumination is normal & is not an issue in itself
