Why? Just... Why!?

Featured Replies

Came across an interesting Gumtree listing while looking through the used car section...

Far be it from me to judge, but why in God's name would you want to swap a Nissan Primera (5-seat saloon) for a Vauxhall Vectra (also 5-seat saloon)?

Is he nuts?

A Vectra fetishist?

Religious piety in the extreme? Like the Bishop of Alaska and his frozen ice cold baths and no windows in the manse. Similarly, a Vectra would meet his lowly requirement: whereas a Nissan would be too grand

A fondness for rust?

Must be...

To any Vauxhall owners out there who wish to escape to a better brand, there's your chance.

The Primera is a decent car and worth 10 of any Vectra.

there always one :D

Someone, doing the reverse of swapping up, like the chap with paperclip that eventually became a house?

Maybe he has the insatiable urge for electrical problems, naff build quality and also the desire to be sponsored by Castrol

I wouldn't have any them. I didn't think I would ever be in a situation that I would say this, But I would rather take public transport.

You wouldn't have a Primera or a Laguna? I wouldn't go that far Alan!

And the insane desire to replace suspension top mounts and bearings on a monthly basis. I'm not sure if Vectras have the irritating and time consuming removal, one piece leg like the Astra, but knowing Vauxhall; they probably do

Nope. Wouldnt have any them mate. Had a Laguna. Maybe it was just mine. But it was one of the biggest piles of junk I had. Dont get me wrong. It was a comfy car. Never been keen on the Primera

I was lucky I only ever had to do the back one's myself, garage did fronts as it failed on MOT otherwise I only ever did the Wishbones and brakes, brake pipes I went through like a dose of salts and I think on my Astra if you include the GSI brake kit I went through 6 calipers on the front, all through seizing/sticking, Wheel bearing went once & that only happened through the same reason as the wishbone. Exhausts mounts I used loads of as the stupid idiot at Longlife exhausts + whoever designed the standard Astra exhaust didn't think it was a good idea to weld some form of lip to stop the exhaust rubber mounts coming off. Light bulbs were popular for blowing so good job Halfrauds had BOGOF on the 120% lights, fuses blowing left right and central, lambda sensor I had 2 go, battery went a few times. List is endless lol

Vectra front springs are easy to change... Mine snapped one between me buying the car and driving it off the driveway the next day... <_< 2 days later I had to replace the thermostat at cost of £70 (yes, that's not a typo).

I wouldn't buy another saloon anyway though, such an impractical design! Even the hatchback Vectra was rubbish for getting stuff in compared to my 306 hatch or Golf hatch! Combined with the poor MPG, awful ride and complete lack of build quality I wasn't impressed with it! However, I owned it a year and sold it on for exactly the same as I'd paid so wasn't all bad lol.

Ah yes, the famous Vauxhall's brake component failure, every 12 month service seemed involved replacing major components!

I think mine had 4 front calipers, 12 sets of sliders, two master cylinders, one eye wateringly priced rear load compensator valve, 24 wheel cylinders :o :o - but I did have the sense to replace the all Vauxhall corrosion prone pipes, early on, with Kunifer and rubbers with Goodyear lines

I, as a general rule avoid French cars. Peugeots gave us nothing but problems and I am not surprised Renaults are the same.

The Primera is a microwave car. Boring, slow and feels like a boat around corners, but gets you where you need to go.

It is within 500 miles of rolling over to 200k on the odometer which probably means it will only have another couple of years (40-50k) left in it. When it leaves the replacement will either be a MK1 Focus or a V40.
