Smithy889
I've ordered up a new fiesta and after waiting several weeks for a factoryorder went in to pick it up from the local franchised dealer. On being show around the car, I came across a couple of small scratches. The dealer has no idea.I usually buy cars outright and keep for many years. My last one did not arrive with any scratches. As you can imagine I was not best pleased. The dealer was very apologetic and offered to sort out the scratches. The dealer did say that on the odd occasion new cars arrive from thefactory with a few marks (caused during transit) but they usually getsorted out before the customer sees any damage.I was offered some compensation but I was so annoyedthat I left and said I'd contact them when I've calmed down. I know that potentially the next time I park up the car I'm could get some marks from other road users bashing car doors.Just wondering has anyone else had these problems in the past? What are my options? Trying to decide what to do? Am I being too picky?
karl46
You paid a price for a new car not a damaged car so thats what you should expect. Reject it. Get then to get another one in pristine condition. It's their problem not yours. If on the other hand you are happy to accept the damage because as you say you could park up and get scratched. It's your choice., but make sure thats it worth your while. It's them doing you a favour not you them.
Stoney871
My ST had a scuff under the front diffuser on collection day, not noticed on PDI but I saw it immediately. Seemed strange as apparently half the staff had been out cooing over the car as it was the first DIB 3,5 ST they had sold this year. Dealer booked the car in the following week, resprayed the whole bumper, gave me their ST diesel demonstrator for 2 days with a full tank of fuel and re-did the Diamondbrite coating over the whole car.
Ford_Man
Tbh you have to remember that none of the vehicles are built in this country, as a result they have a long journey before arriving at the dealership for customer collection. Mistakes can happen with any purchase and like you say we all know how easy a small scratch is - I'd let the dealer sort it (asuming it will be as new condition once done) and accept any compensation they offer. My guess is once it's repaired you will forget it was ever on the car. Good luck mate and keep us updated on how you get on.

Stoney871
It was free. I assume you don't rate it then?
GingerFlame
It was free. I assume you don't rate it then? The dealers often apply it on top of badly prepared paint. Ie, swirls, Holograms etc. Then there's the coating itself. It's not a particularly hard/durable coating. Nor is it amazing Hydrophobicity wise. The cost per bottle for a dealership is next to nothing, unlike professional coatings. For example. gtechniq C1, Exo V2, Crystal Serum. C1 costs the professional around £35 a bottle. Exo v2 the same. These coatings can be bought by anybody although professional application is recommended. Crystal Serum is an extremely hard coating. There for it must be applied by professionals. The cost for a 50ml bottle is around £250. It lasts for over 5 years. If it goes wrong during application, it's a wetsanding job. I think Diamondbrite is extremely over priced and is often pushed upon vulnerable customers. Obviously if you got it for free then it's better than unprotected paint but I'd still be Dubious about the quality of the paint preparation. alexp999
Mine had a massive mark all the way up the length of the bonnet and part way along the roof where the car was loaded on the top deck and got caught by trees, despite my dealers delivery instructions specifically requesting otherwise, because of that exact reason. It also had a small scratch on the passengers side rear arch, drivers side rear door and scuff patches under both rear lights which the valet reckoned ironically came from the protection film flapping about. It is just transit damage. You will not ever get a brand new car without it. The important thing is to scour the car on collection to ensure that the dealer knows you didn't do it. My dealer had sorted the big mark on the bonnet and roof before collection and the other marks where done for free by their valet the following weekend. MPX309
When I bought mine there was a crack in the windscreen, right infront of where the driver sees out of. I didn't say anything at the time, as they said they'd need a week to get it ready and I assumed by get it ready they knew about it. When I went to pick it up it was still there. So I mentioned it and they offered to sort it out (free of charge)Yes, if you don't like the scratches (which is understandable) demand they get removed otherwise you won't buy it. As for parking up and it could get scratched, I always try and park next to expensive cars in pristine condition, or if there's room the empty part of a supermarket car park. I hate it when you go to the effort to park far away in an empty part of the car park and you come back and there's one other car next to yours with loads of spaces around. jeebowhite
I agree with pretty much all which has been said. A long journey has been had by these cars, and some scratches are inevitable, but the dealer needs to sort it out, to a satisfactory condition.

b1g_dav3
What was supposed to be my ST was smashed into a kerb and had the front bumper torn off before delivery >_> Luckily they had a delivery of 7 of them so I was assigned a different one - massively paid off as I'd got my name on a pre-2016 model and now have a 2016 instead :P

b1g_dav3
Some drivers really are idiots. Yep, the ST that ended up in a poorly state was driven by a new mechanic who decided to give it some going through the car park, for what point nobody will ever know or understand. Some poor sod now though has a car that's been crashed and repaired and most likely sold as new.
Phil 87
I found a scratch on the roof of mine first time I washed it, contacted the dealer I bought it from (they were far away) and they arranged for me to go to a local dealer so they could look at it. Luckily they were able to polish it with just a couple of wipes so I was happy with that. Anything that wouldn't polish out I would reject the car. A new car should be perfect and accepting one with damaged paint is not starting off the ownership in a good way.
