Fusion Front Suspension Geometry

Featured Replies

Whilst many of the settings are fixed during manufacture and are not adjustable front wheel tracking is. Having scanned this forum and the Fiesta Mk6 for figures and information It seems none has been published.

Facts and figures with setting up info would be helpful.

In my case after hitting a small rock hibernating in a pile of leaves (effect similar to hitting a kerb) the nearside front wheel rim outer edge was folded back but the tyre just came away from the rim. The spare wheel was fitted and later changed with the rear wheel. Although the vehicle drives ok for straight ahead driving it is now with the steering wheel down a little to the left. It does not 'pull' to the left or right and there seems to be no feathering of tyres.

Info in the forums suggests checking the lower wishbone for damage (seems to be common with kerb hitters) but I have no tracking measurements.

Anyone have them?

Thanks

Ta muchly -

BTW I have examined the near side suspension for anything obvious but no luck so another look due tomorrow.

First thing to bend slightly will be the track rod ends

Thanks Ian.

I did wonder about that but have no way of checking it...Sure, the track rod end does have a crank which did alert me to this point at first examination but checking spares drawings and illustrations only went to show there is some sort of crank to the end anyway so not much help.

I'll check for any signs of reshaping having taken place.

There are reports of damage being done to the wishbone so will check that for anything obvious too.

If the tracking is not out by much , you wont see anything bent

Ian,

Further inspection seems to confirm that. There is no noticeable damage to the wishbone or any associated parts.

I have now freed the locking nut on the n/s track rod end, marked the end and rod with idents so I can return to any pre adjustment settings and will road test tomorrow. The lock nut was suffering usual corrosion stiffness but a few shots of freeing fluid from a 99p can of the stuff and leaving for an hour or so did the trick - really easy!

So far I am hopeful that it may be a simple case of just adjusting the tracking. I'll report back IDC

Ok, so real progress has been made.

After making the indent marks I then marked each 1/4 turn for greater accuracy if needed. Each step required would be recorded.

First, 1 complete turn of the track rod anti clockwise then a test drive proved the direction of adjustment to be correct. The result was about 50% correction. So back into the barn and another full turn in the same direction then a test drive proved to restore the steering wheel to its normal horizontal position at 'straight ahead'.

Next steps will be to obtain a replacement wheel and change the tyre then get the tracking set using a laser rig at my friendly local Mr Fixit.

Just for the record - here's the freeing/maintenance spray I use. 250ml for 99p can't be bad. It is also used for protecting my lathes and other machines in the workshop which is at one end of a very old and drafty barn.

Thanks for the help.

Regards to all and a Merry Christmas also.
