Can Someone Help? Power Steering Fluid?

Featured Replies

So I bought a car from an elderly woman and she hadn't changed/filled up anything for a while, oil, coolant etc so recently I have had a weird noise when turning and realised the power steering fluid is below min mark, I was wondering can I use halfords power steering fluid or can anyone point me in the correct direction? also can I just top it up right away?

I have a 2003 Ford Fiesta Finesse 1.25.

Here is a few I seen that I think match ford spec

any help is appreciated!

If it matches Ford spec then you're fine.

The mk6 fiesta 2002-2005 has issues with boiling PAS fluid due to short hose runs so if you've ran it low the fluid in maybe waste.

To top up, fill to max line, start engine, turn wheels from lock to lock to bleed new fluid through the system and expel any air that may have been sucked in.

I'd carry out a full service if I were you.

Oil, oil filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, coolant, steering fluid, Pollen filter, air filter etc

Will the fluids I linked be okay to use then? I'm not really a car person so just trying to get the correct thing, I've tried to look online this is just my last try man.

I am going to get it a full service after the Christmas time, I just want to get the noise when I turn away cause its annoying as hell haha!

Don't let halfrauds service it. I haven't looked at the links but If it matches Ford spec it's fine. Or go yo Ford and buy some. It's not as deer as you may think

I would't let them, I know someone who would do it I just want to know I have the correct PSF before I put it in.

So am I able to just top it up? I know I should completely change it but would it harm the car to just top it up for now?

It won't do any harm to just top it up

I would also question the reason why you need to top it up - do you have a leak somewhere?

Id also question that.. although if I was paying somebody to service my car, not that I would, I'd tell them to investigate whilst they're at it

I don't know anything about cars so I don't know if I have a leak! I can't see a visible leak? How could I check? Or is it too complicated?

In simple terms, your looking for any signs of wet or oily patches or anywhere that the power steering fluid may have gathered. A look under the car and in behind each wheel with a torch will allow you to see if there is anything obvious.
