Headlight Adjustment

Featured Replies

The headlights on my Fiesta Titanium are aimed far to low. Can anyone tell me which way to turn the adjuster to raise them, clockwise or anti-clockwise. I thought if I turn them a quarter turn at a time I can always put them back to where they are now if I start getting flashed. The dashboard leveler is set to 0.

Wait till it's dark and park facing a wall (25 feet away), switch your lights on and adjust them, that way you'll see which way you need to turn the adjuster and you'll see how level they are. I 'think' anti-clockwise moves the beam higher.

Thanks Russ,

Shone the lights on the garage door and adjusted them up 1/2 a turn (clockwise). They didn't move up much, but its a start. Will be able to tell next time I drive at night if they need further adjustment.

An mot station will be able to set them correctly for a couple of quid.

It's a hexagon socket in yellow plastic IIRC - you need a fat allen key.  I'll get a photo tomorrow if you can't find it.

When adjusting the headlamp heights I park facing the garage door, switch on the headlamps with the levelling knob in the car (centre of the light switch) set at position 0, then I mark the top of the beams on the garage door with tape, this gives me the current headlamp position.

Then move the levelling knob in the car to position 2 which causes the headlamps to go lower.

Now adjust the headlamps using the adjusters on the light units until the level comes back up to the tape.

Move the levelling knob in the car back to position 0 and the beams will be higher.

With this method, if I have adjusted them to far, I can move them back to the original position by moving the knob inside the car to position 2.

I can then experiment with different adjustments using different positions on the levelling knob in the car and I will always be able to get back to the original setting.

Hope that makes sense.

I think it's a 7mm hex on mk 7 Fiestas  - I tweaked the beam heights on my 2011 one, just enough to improve the lights' range without dazzling anyone.
