Mk 7.5 (2014) Coolant Tank Cap? Help

Featured Replies

Hello, new to fiestas and new to the site so please excuse if this seems like a ridiculous question....

I noticed today that the coolant level in my Mk 7.5 Titanium x was a little low so thought i'd top it up, the cap was stiff (i noticed other threads where peoples caps are stuck completely) but came off. At least the top part did, the rest of the cap remains inside the tank and i can't see any way of getting it out? I tried doing it up tight and making sure to press down when removing it but it just comes out again. Pic of what i am looking at attached.

thanks in advance! post-70971-0-07262900-1451841362_thumb.j

Have you tried tapping it around with a screwdriver and hammer lightly too see if you can free it ?

I have not tried that yet but will give it a go, although as the bit inside is completely round and smooth i don't know if it will have enough grip to move it? I also dont know if the bit thats still in the tank is also on a screw thread or just pops out, albeit usually attached to the actual cap

screw the cap back on and call in to your dealer to sort it out, if you try removing it and cause damage you will have to pay for a new one. leave it for the dealer to break.its under warranty im sure

Sorry I agree with iantt there on that one looked over the fact that the car is under warranty , take it back to fords as iantt has suggested and also keep us updated .

Yea, thats a fair shout...i'll do that before busting out the hammers!

thanks guys - will update when i have a resolution

I had the exact same problem with my 2013 Fiesta a few months ago, I took it to the dealer assuming they would fix it free of charge as it was within the 3 year warranty period only to receive a bill of £160 for replacing the cap and coolant bottle. After expressing my disgust at the dealership they told me that only certain items covered during the 2nd and 3rd year of warranty. Anyway after much discussion they reduced the bill to £110.

Moral of the story is refuse to pay anything if the dealer insists it isn't covered by the warranty.

As for the coolant cap, it's a sh**e design that's prone to breaking into two... never had this problem in my MK4 Fiesta.

trick is to apply a small amount of lubricant around the rubber seal before !Removed! cap back on, then next time its easier to remove.

thanks for that tip - although its the first time i've tried to remove the cap since i bought the car back in oct 2015 - i will try lubing when i get it out/sorted/replaced (whatever the solution is)

Update: So i thought before thinking about paying Ford money for the pleasure of looking at the coolant tank, i'd pop down to my local garage...5 mins later thanks to a little careful persuasion with a screwdriver it popped right out. They also topped up the tank, work done there and then on the spot and free of charge...Moral of the story, support your local garage and they look after.

I have the same as its so hard to get off,it screws a bit then solid.

I did get it off with some large grips, not to grip it hard just to turn it better.
