AnnaRoberts
Hellooo, I have a 1.4 diesel ford fiesta, which is 10 years old now. Recently it's started to cut off randomly, it feels as if the engine goes off for a couple seconds and then starts again. The battery light and the engine light comes on when doing this, but only for a second. It tends to do this when in 5th gear at around 50mph-60mph, which is around 2000rpm. The car has been in a garage all week and no fault comes up! Also, every now and again the 'transmission light'? (i think) comes on, (looks like a cog with a ! in) and goes into limp mode, where is makes it impossible to go over 5mph and very jumpy. Once i switch the car off and on again it goes fine. Has anyone had this problem before? Thanks in advance!
MONDEO TXS 2.2
When was the fuel filter last changed ?
AnnaRoberts
June/July last year. I have done aprox 8000 miles since then, could that cause this? It's been to two garages now and neither of them know whats wrong, nothing comes up when they plug it in to the computer. It doesnt struggle to start, ever, so the battery light confuses me, but i know nothing about cars!
MONDEO TXS 2.2
Yes it could. What kind of driving do you do ? High engine speed, motorway driving or just town driving ? Or ?

Well . . the fuel filter isn't that old, but for the sake of a few quid I'd get that replaced, just to eliminate it. Is the EGRV blanked ? Is the airfilter new or new-ish ? I'd get some decent quality diesel injector cleaner & run a few tankfuls through the system & take the car for a long-ish blast down the motorway in 4th gear ( not 5th ) & see if theres any improvement or if the issue occurs again Check the battery connections are properly tight & also the connector that attaches to the alternator. Did you take the car to a Ford garage for investigation ?
AnnaRoberts
I've had a new EGR valve about 6 months ago, doesn't feel the same as when the EGRV was playing up. Air filter is the same age as the fuel filter, replaced them when servicing the car. Bought some redex? i think its called last week, only used it once. i've booked it in to a local Ford garage, no spaces for two weeks, though,
MONDEO TXS 2.2
O.K. Persevere with the Redex - it's better than nothing & will take time to work Thing is without any fault codes this problem could be caused by electrical issues or fuel issues or injector issues or all three combined. I'm sure you'll get more advice on here very soon :)
AnnaRoberts
Thanks for the help! :) hopefully, it won't be the injectors! Is there a better injector cleaner out there? Thanks again!!

Let's hope it's not the injectors. I'd use Archoil or Forte or BG244 or Atomex diesel fuel treatment / injector cleaner - none of them are cheap, but the best is never cheap.
